Maine citizens vote at GOP Convention to include Convention of States in platform

Maine State Director Ken Quinn recently attended the 2016 Maine Republican Convention to propose the addition of an Article V Convention of States plank to the Republican platform.

His trip was remarkably successful.

Ken and his wife Shelly headed up to Bangor, Maine, early Friday morning. They were joined by District Captain Margery Ripley, who helped them hand out flyers to the delegates as they entered the Cross Center for the two day convention. The flyers explained the purpose of a Convention of States as well as the amendment that was being proposed to the 2016 Maine Republican Platform, which read:

“We support the Convention of States Project application which seeks to call an Article V convention limited to only proposing amendments to the U.S. Constitution that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and terms of office for federal officials and members of Congress.”

At this point, a Convention of States could be a very bad idea. The nutcases could take over the process and really undermine the Constitution.

This article is interesting because the Republican Party of Maine has made the Convention of the States concept a matter of party dogma by placing it in the platform.

That’s what I’ve been saying only to be assured over and over again that, no the “smart” people, the patriots, will control such a convention. Um hm.

Except an article five convention, may only propose amendments. Those amendments cannot change or repeal anything ratified before 1808. Finally any of the amendments proposed, would have to go through the ratification process, and receive approval from three fourths of the states, before it would go into effect. So even if they did what they legally cannot, like remove the second amendment, do you really think that they are going to get enough states to agree. Will TX,AL,AK,VA,MS,CO,AZ,GA,TN,KY,ID,MT,UT,WY,KA,NE,OK,NM,ND,SD,and SC are going to agree with that. Or the people in those states let them agree to that? There are many other rights, and liberties that I think would get the same treatment if liberals tried to get rid of it.

I know the “article five” argument, and I just don’t believe it.

It all comes down to this: we have so far been unable to control party caucuses, state legislatures, crazy governors, senators, courts, and presidents . . . but THIS TIME, by God, we’ll control what happens in an Article Five Convention.

Not.
