“Soul Coaxing (Ame Câline)” is an instrumental tune recorded by
the Raymond Lefèvre orchestra and released in 1968.
It was a hit in the US on the Four Corners label,
peaking at #37 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart
in April at the end of a 12-week run.

WHEN 4 IS A PRIME NUMBER

Franz Josef Haydn is credited with inventing the string quartet, and he wrote 87 of them during his long life. The string quartet consists of two violins, a viola and a cello. The quartet repertory requires a lot of concentration and rehearsal to get everything just right. As a result, chamber music festivals don’t program many quartets because that level of concentration is difficult to attain with four pickup players. String quartets work best when performed by a professional quartet.

HAYDN: QUARTET IN D MINOR, OP. 76/2, MENUETTO

This is from the famous “Fifths” quartet, named after a musical interval and not a bottle of booze. This movement is almost pure counterpoint, often known as the “Witches’ Minuet.”

Haydn: Quartet in D minor, Op. 76/2, third movement
