He still won more votes in New York than Ted Cruz and John Kasich combined.

It was a closed primary, and Trump won. However, it was not as closed as Colorado, where the voters were not allowed to vote, and I bet anything C Edmund is fine with that.

Party primaries in New York are closed, that is, open to those who are enrolled in a certain party prior to the election. It’s 30 days before unless they have changed it recently. A Democrat would not have been able to vote for Trump in the Republican primary unless he or she had changed party enrollment by the deadline.

“The notion that Trump can win blue states like New York is just laughable. Tuesday is irrevocable proof.”

NY does not allow crossover votes in primaries. Unaffiliated voters cannot vote in the primaries. The deadline for changing party registration is 193 days before the primary. As a result the NY primaries are representative of the results for registered voters in the parties and do not reflect unaffiliated voters or voters of another party who might cross over on election night during the general election.

All New York showed was both Hillary and Trump commanded an overwhelming majority of voters in their respective parties. It told us nothing about crossover voting or unaffiliated voter voting. Therefore, it did not prove or disprove Trump’s ability to win NY in the general election.

Bernie and Hillary totaled 1.8 million votes. Trump/Cruz/Kasich totaled less than 1 million votes. And you think the Conservative Party (150,000 people) in New York and independents will make up that difference?

I’m afraid the irrational Trump hating is showing its head again

These establishment idiots will be petitioning Russia to invade the U.S. on Trump's Inauguration Day. I can hear it now, "You just wait! The Russians won't let it happen, they are going to be pissed. Trump can't defend us against the Russians! Where are the Russians? Why is Putin meeting Trump? Trump is a traitor!" Trump would be well advised watch the leadership of the GOP.

RE: He still won more votes in New York than Ted Cruz and John Kasich combined.

Small comfort when the ultimate goal is to take New York from the Democrats in the general.

“It was a closed primary”

...and a lot of New Yorkers are actually registered in the Conservative Party.

Trump would certainly put NY ‘in play’, in the sense that Hillary will have to campaign there and spend ad money there. She can’t just ignore it, like she would if she were opposed to any other GOP candidate.

And there are other states, states the MSM used to talk endlessly about, the swing states, where Trump has the potential to do well also.

It should be an interesting election.

Many disaffected Democrats in New York will probably vote for Trump in the general election, in which they can vote across party lines (unlike in a closed primary). That is, they will vote for Trump unless they decide instead to stay home. It’s all up to him and his mouth.

It was a closed primary.

Looking at the 2012 NYS presidential exit poll, about 23% of the voters are independent and they voted more for the Democrat Obama than they did for the Republican, Mitt.

Conclusion: Independent voters probably won't stop Trump from a big defeat in NYS.

Pretty sure that isn’t the ultimate goal actually. Even more sure that Ted Cruz won’t be winning New York.

Not to mention a portion of the 70% of registered dems who didn't participate in the primary.

Perhaps those 70% stayed home because they intend to Trump in the general. That conclusion is just a valid as the silly one you two are trying to push.

Look, it was a closed primary and registered democrats far outnumber registered republicans. Why you two can't grasp that is not clear.

Further there is a serious race between Hillary and Sanders, and it is heating up. The only democrat votes for certain that will go to the democrats are the votes for Hillary. A lot of Sanders votes will be up for grabs, some will go libertarian, the angriest Sanders supporters will likely go to Trump to keep Hillary from winning.
