I opened a retail store in the Richland Mall in the late 70’s and it was not good then. Had over a thousand applications for minimum wage jobs.

Johnstown’s three biggest industries, in descending order:
1) Steel
2) John Murtha
3) Sports Movies
None of which have been very active in recent years.

One of the major problem is the Johnstown Housing Authority importing Philly and NY Section 8 trash.
That happened in Altoona (my home town) recently.
Housing authorities in NJ were actually directing Section 8 applicants to cities like Altoona because they couldn’t accommodate them there.
Yep and they are bringing the heroin with them.

I did a “Rockin’ the Wall” tour a year and a half ago and we tried to book some showings in some of the smaller cities and the economy was so tough there we couldn’t get sponsors.

My hometown is 2 miles south of there on 36. I remember riding the street car to Lakemont Park.
