As a resident of Michigan, I agree with a Maine-style electoral allotment. I am tired of Detroit/Flint/Ann Arbor tipping all of Michigan’s electoral votes to the Democrat.
That’s true in so many states where large metropolitan areas tip the Electoral vote balance in the Dems’ favor.
Small clarification; The Constitution does not prohibit electors from voting for a presidential and a VP candidate from the same state; it prohibits an elector to vote for two candidates that both are resudents if the elector’s home state. So Impy, if you were a presidential elector from IL, you could vote for, say, Senator Cruz for president and Gov. Abbott for VP, but you would not be able to vote for, say, Mike Ditka for president and Pete Roskam as VP.
Right. My bad.
Dikta could always establish residency in Wyoming of course. ;p
Boy, I’d like to be Presidential elector. Fat chance in this state!
Yeah, it blows.
Take Illinois, take out Cook county, one damn county, and it’s a GOP leaning state. I actually calculated the Presidential election results sans Cook for past several elections. It would have gone Republican in 2012, 2004 and 2000, and for Clinton by the slimmest of margins in 1996 and 1992, Obama by only 7 points in 2008, about the same as the nationwide margin.
That’s my cue to pitch the creation and immediate admission to the Union of the State of Chicagawaukee, comprising not only Cook County (except for GOP-leaning or marginal suburbs that secede and join surrounding counties remaining in IL) but also the coastal portions (and Democrat inland towns) in Lake County, IL, the coastal parts of Racine and Kenosha Counties (including the heavily Dem cities) in WI, most of Milwaukee County (except for GOP and marginal areas that secede and are not needed for contiguity (sorry, South Milwaukee, you’re stuck in Chicagawaukee)), and, east of Chicago, Lake County, IN (including Gary and Hammond, but not the southern portions that secede). The State of Chicagawaukee would be overwhelmingly Democrat, but it would leave IL, WI and IN as GOP states.
The only thing better than the creation of State of Chicagawaukee would be the creation of the Republic of Chicagawaukee. : )
Sorry, Impy, you’d have to move a bit west to escape the grip of a state in which Rahm Emanuel would be the least kiberal gubernatorial candidate.
Just imagine, I could say "I'm a proud Illinoisian!" (Sounds better to me than Illinoisan)
Republic of Chicagawaukee
The People's Republic. First Presidential election, Rahm vs. The Rainbow/Push/New Black Panthers candidate vs. The Birkenstock/Patchouli Oil/Yuppie D-bag candidate.
Oh God, remember the San Fran Mayoral election where Gavin Newsom was the conservative choice cause the other guy (A Green) was pro-homeless people going #2 in the street? Yikes.
