Wyoming County is picturesque rolling hills country dotted with apple orchards and maple groves located in the western part of the state. Both the state of Wyoming and Wyoming County are predominantly white 92% with similar per capita income.
Where they differ significantly is in their ability to vote within a Republican Primary Election. Although the State of Wyoming has a population 10 times the size of Wyoming County, only a fraction of a percentage of Wyoming republicans are chosen to vote for the delegates that pick the presidential nominee. Wyoming County, NY had a 40% voter turnout in 2016. Wyoming state had a .03% committeemen turnout in 2016. This is roughly one third the turnout from 2012. Something must have changed drastically since the last election.
Wyoming County is one of the more predominately Republican counties in New York State. The registered republicans outnumber democrats 2:1. It's the second most republican county in New York. In 2004, Bush carried Wyoming County by a 31% margin over Kerry. In 2008, McCain won the county by a 26% margin over Obama. In the 2006 Senatorial election, Wyoming County chose conservative, John Spencer by a 4% margin over Clinton. Here are the 2016 results for Wyoming.
Presidential Primary (REP) > 27th Congr. District > Wyoming (Republicans: 10,732)

Presidential Caucus (REP) > Statewide > Wyoming State (Republicans: 272,000)
Candidate______________Percent________Votes
Cruz votes-66.3%...............644

Trump votes7.2%..................70
Total Votes ........................................803
803 choose the 27 delegates. This is 66% less than in the 2012 Election.
In terms of their vote selecting a potential nominee, the NY individual vote appears to count for a very small fraction compared with those who were selected to vote in Wyoming.
Cruz does great.
Just as long as no one votes.
I could certainly see that headline throwing Freepers off as to the locale being discussed...
Exactly, and he had already test-marketed his lack of appeal and knew exactly where to go for the marginal vote wins.
His father went to North Dakota for him last summer.
Well, it’s almost Canada, eh.
That’s right. When concocted caucuses and insider delegates are involved, the insiders do great. A way different story when the people are involved and actually vote.
If Trump were in Cruz’s shoes, he would have bailed out long ago. Of course Trump has dignity and honor, Cruz obviously don’t.
It’s the last recorded county on the NY SoS ledger and the stark comparison really stood out in terms of the power behind the vote.
Then where were they on March 12?
Oh, yeah—though a ‘Wyoming County’ with a parenthetical ‘New York State’ or whatever might have been more clear.
Why?
This level of propaganda is so pathetic.
And WHY wo’t liberals listen to any reason?
I mean I know some hard core liberals and they seem like the nicest people but they are just SO WRONG and you can’t teach them anything.
Is it a defective gene? Is there any research into this??
Deceitful propaganda !
Tuesday 16 February - Tuesday 1 March 2016: Precinct Caucuses. Candidates for delegates to the county conventions declare their
presidential preference (including undecided).
>>>Who chose the potential delegates?
>>>How do you select someone who may or may not be undecided to represent your vote?
Saturday 12 March 2016: The County Conventions meet over several days to choose 12 of 29 of Wyoming’s delegates to the Republican National Convention. Approximately 980 (?) County precinct committeemen and women are eligible to vote for the National Convention Delegates and Alternates at the County Conventions.
>>>Attending conventions where only the precinct committeemen are allowed to vote? If your not a precinct cm, why would you attend?
These are party insiders likely directed by the Cheney/Bush cabal in Wyoming. There is no real vote. It’s voter-less.
It’s obvious, where people are allowed to vote their choice is often very different than what the GOPe insiders will choose.
GOP precinct caucus has record turnout in Cheyenne:

Casper Star Tribune: “Natrona County Republicans pack Tuesday night’s caucus”
It’s obvious, where people are allowed to vote their choice is often very different than what the GOPe insiders will choose.
Did you read about Wyoming? It is not liberal. Why do people stereotype an entire state with 20 million people as all liberals? Have you ever been to NY?
Wyoming County is one of the more predominately Republican counties in New York State.

It’s the second most republican county in New York. In 2004, Bush carried Wyoming County by a 31%.
It may be more conservative than where you live.
“...those who were selected to vote in Wyoming.”

Well, NOOB, I see you’re still posting your FUD. In Wyoming, 100% of registered Republican were eligible to go to their local precinct meeting to VOTE and participate in the delegate selection process. So, those “selected to vote” were those who actually THEMSELVES decided to go and participate. Each of those Wyoming folks could also volunteer themselves to be elected as their precinct representative to higher level convention. Collectively, these individual Republicans in Wyoming participating and voting in the delegate selection process constituted THE BASE in Wyoming—the BASE chose the delegates going to the national convention.
In New York State, who selected the individual delegates? Was it “the Base” or was it GOPe party apparatchiks?
“All Republicans who have registered within the precinct at the dates of the call of the Precinct Caucus shall be entitled to participate and vote at the Precinct Caucus.”
