The Chapter (23 I think) about how the U.S. Army deteriorated after VJ Day and why it got its ass handed to it in the first few rounds against the North Koreans should be required reading for anyone who touches defense policy.
They don’t need to look back that far; we just lost two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) with our “new” military (complete with women “soldiers” being killed and captured). Here in NJ a couple of days ago a female soldier lost her leg in a traffic accident in a Humvee on the NJ Turnpike; for what? She has the rest of her life to reflect on it.
Chapter 23 ... Is that the one titled "Proud Legions"? It stands on its own, outside of the book, and is excellent. The whole book is, really, but that one chapter sums it up.
