Trump's a counter-puncher. When it became obvious that the rules would be manipulated beyond comprehension, Trump brought in folks who could beat the players at their own game. Besides that, these are two very capable folks at the game that Cruz and other snakes can't add to their teams.

I'm wondering if it will also serve the purpose of having political insiders thinking it might not be such a good idea to play these games with Cruz.

That’s what these professional political consultants do.

Whether they do or not is a separate matter. They get paid no matter what.

This one guy already got paid by Walker to waste all his dough on fruitless efforts.
