Motorists traveling on Interstate 10 will encounter restrictions next week including a full closure of westbound I-10 between Benson and Tucson overnight Wednesday, April 20 while the Arizona Department of Transportation continues making improvements in the area.
The following restrictions are scheduled for next week:
The westbound I-10 on-ramp and eastbound I-10 off-ramp at Kolb Road in Tucson (Exit 270) will be closed from 7 p.m. Monday, April 18, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, for paving work on Kolb Road at the interchange. Traffic from Kolb Road can take eastbound I-10 to Rita Road and return to westbound I-10. Eastbound I-10 traffic can continue to Rita Road and return to Kolb Road using westbound I-10.
The eastbound I-10 on-ramp and westbound I-10 off-ramp at Kolb Road in Tucson (Exit 270) will be closed from 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, until 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, for paving on Kolb Road at the interchange. Kolb Road traffic can use westbound I-10 to go to Wilmot Road and return to eastbound I-10. Westbound I-10 traffic can continue to Wilmot Road and return to Kolb Road using eastbound I-10.
Westbound I-10 will be closed at the junction with State Route 90 (Exit 302) in Cochise County starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, to allow crews to place the bridge deck at Davidson Canyon east of Tucson. A 67-mile detour using SR 90, State Route 82 and State Route 83 will return westbound traffic to I-10 at Exit 281. The detour will be in effect until 5 a.m. Thursday, April 21. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible or plan up to an additional two hours of travel time.
On Friday, crews will pave I-10 ramps in both directions at Empirita Road (Exit 292), requiring intermittent ramp closures at that location between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. When the ramps are closed, motorists can continue to the next exit and return to Empirita Road.
Starting Monday, April 25, paving work will resume on I-10 between Tucson and Benson. Crews will apply the final surface pavement during daylight hours with five-mile lane closures in effect where paving is being done. Delays can be expected for the paving work for an estimated three weeks.

I’ll be glad when they finish monkeying with that Benson to Tucson stretch. It needed the work but it will be good to have it done.

If the Department of Highways would just stop working on the roads...then the rest of us could get where we’re going.
