JACKSON, Miss. Gov. Phil Bryant has signed into law a bill that allows some members of churches to undergo firearms training so they can provide armed security for their congregations.
The Church Protection Act specifies that those designated can carry guns into church buildings. It also allows people to carry holstered weapons without a permit.
Republican state Rep. Andy Gipson of Braxton says the law gives small congregations an option to defend themselves against attack. He proposed the bill as a response to the slayings last year of nine people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Mississippi Association of Police Chiefs has opposed the portion of the bill that loosens permit requirements.

Folks in Mississippi weren’t allowed to CC into church?
One of the things I like about my church is that the gun policy is “bring’ em!” No silly sticker on the door. On any given Sunday there are dozens of us carrying.
My church has started hiring cops to provide security security and inside.
I’m pretty sure some of the ushers are also armed. We have a large congregation, usually about 1400-1600 people each service.
No metal detectors though.
I was trained in the service to detect concealed weapons under clothing by looking for non-verbal signs. It seemed like at least half the men and a fourth of the women were armed. About 3 months ago the question came up, and it was confirmed to be a little bit higher. There were more armed women :)
In before the “Praise the Lord, and Pass the Ammunition”!
I dont ask to carry in my church.
I attend a church that meets in a school, so no guns allowed. When we finish building our sanctuary I am going to approach out pastor about carrying. In SC you have to have permission to carry in a church.
God bless you, padre.

Our church policy is not spoken one way or the other but the pastor and deacons sought out members a few years ago that they knew might have a CCDW and let it be known they are more than welcome to carry discreetly. Didn’t matter to me, I have been carrying for 20+ yrs. in church approval or not. Insurance.
I live in Kansas. Except for some exceptions (until July 2017) those silly signs are “suggestions.” I’ve counted four CC in my section of my service alone. I hadn’t thought to check out the ushers. I can usually spot the bulge or the clank of the purse.
I am currently working getting my somewhat timid SO to shoot and carry. She related a good story to me just this past week. She volunteers watching young kids during one of the services, and this past week the CCW topic came up with one of her-co-volunteers. The lady said “What? You don’t carry? I have mine in my purse right now. In the case of something going down whoever it is isn’t getting to these kids!”
My SO was a bit surprised.
Women are harder to detect if armed because they can hide them better. Clothing or purses. Guys telegraph the location of a dangerous object with their non-verbals but only have so many locations they can carry.
Very interesting. I’d be curious to know what telegraphs your training pointed out?
We use a mix of off duty uniformed cops, plainclothes, and private security. Some of the plain clothed folks blend in, others are pretty obvious. Some of the members may have their own security, as well.
My buddy was wrong. The Governor signed the bill. Mississippi is now ‘Constitutional Carry’!
Thanks for the ping onyx. Mississippi is now added to the list of Constitutional Carry states!!
Onward Christian soldiers....
‘Always carry at church.
