If someone is 17 or 18, and flipping burgers to earn spending money or help pay for college, that’s commendable. If that same person is still flipping burgers for a living at age 40, that’s tragic. What the left is trying to do here is trap another group of people, in this case fast food workers, into a lifetime of dependency on the left for their economic survival. What the left is really trying to do here is establish fast food restaurants as modern day plantations, with fast food workers as the modern day equivalent of sharecroppers.
That’s an excellent analysis. Provided the next job step on the ladder has not been exported by some free-trade treaty.
As Thomas Sowell points out in his excellent “Basic Economics: A Citizens Guide to The Economy”, those jobs should only serve as a gateway into the workforce, not a career.
Which is why the “Living Wage” is such a blindingly idiotic concept.
We all know how all of this is going to turn out. But as DonaldC asked in his post about the teaching of economics in school...the answer to tha is that Bernie Sanders is a viable presidential candidate. If they are teaching it, it is the Soviet model of Economics.
