Slightly change the question. Would Americans pay more for higher quality items made in America, or prefer low cost single use trash made in China.
It would depend on what they're buying. Some things might be perfectly acceptable to purchase at a discount, knowing full well that you might throw it away in a year or two. I have Craftsman tools that I've had for 20 years, and will likely last much longer. I also have a few "one-off" tools that might've been made in Mexico or China, and although they might not last as long as the Craftsmen tools, I'm fine with it because I judged the price to be appropriate for my needs.
