“Hell the Tesla weighs almost as much as the full sized Chevy Silverado I used to own.”
How about the two political parties being legally required to hold a primary election in all states on the same day something like six months prior to the General Election. No crossover voting, registered party members with ID’s only allowed to vote. No caucuses, no delegates, just a popular vote to nominate their candidates for all offices that will be up in the General. The oligarchs would $hit their pants!

It fixes everything.
I agree with everything you said after the first sentence. However, holding a primary in all states on the same day would favor candidates with the most money and name recognition.
Having caucuses and primaries begin in small states like Iowa and New Hampshire, spread a week apart, allows lesser known candidates to canvas the states, participate in debates and become more familiar to the voter.
How about repealing all laws privileging political parties, especially what you refer to as "the two"?
Start with zero public funds for "primaries".
