I fail to see how her words have anything to do with voting for hillary.

Seems to be a stretch by the author to grab a headline.

The headline doesn't say anything about Laura "voting" for Hillary; it says Laura hints that she would rather see her as President.

Many in the packed auditorium took her words as a coded criticism of Mr Trump, whose foreign policy plans have been condemned as isolationist and weak on detail.

The idiocy of the Bush clan (and by extension, the GOPe) notwithstanding, sounds like a "hint" to me, and a sneaky jab at Trump, wouldn't you say?
