A New Jersey township is seeking to dismiss a federal lawsuit accusing it of creating bogus barriers for years before ultimately rejecting a groups plan to build a mosque.
The Islamic Society of Basking Ridge filed the complaint last month, seeking permission to build the mosque. Its application to build the mosque was denied in December after four years and 39 public hearings.
Its lawsuit alleges a delayed and drawn-out process during which town residents made references to terrorism and questioned what children would learn in the mosque.

Did the plan include a viewing platform on the roof to watch planes crash into buildings in NYC?

As Basking Ridge is not an independent municipality, demographic data is based on the United States Census Bureau figures for the ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) for the 07920 ZIP Code.
Census 2000[edit]
As of the 2000 United States Census[7] there were 24,600 people, 9,300 households, and 6,517 families residing in the ZCTA. The population density was 1,137.1 people per square mile (1830.0/km²). There were 9,537 housing units at an average density of 440.8/sq mi (709.3/km²). The racial makeup of the ZCTA was 89.2% Caucasian, 1.4% African American, 0.1% Native American, 7.8% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. 2.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.[8]
There were 9,300 households out of which 37.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% were non-families. 26.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.15.[8]
In the ZCTA the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18 , 3.2% from 18 to 24 , 31.2% from 25 to 44 , 25.4% from 45 to 64 , and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39.3 years.[8]
The median income for a household in the ZCTA was $105,471, and the median income for a family was $131,618. Males had a median income of $93,436 versus $60,101 for females. The per capita income for the ZCTA was $54,753. 1.4% of the population and 0.6% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.2% of those under the age of 18 and 2.8% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.[8]
Is there any wonder this doesn't sit well with the township?
I think you have the right tactic. let the left and its alignment with Arabic extremism choke on its own rules.
Trump would do it, not sure about these other weenies.
About two miles from me. They held hearings for years on this. I don’t know why as the the courts will give the Islamists whatever they want anyway.
There are some interesting facts in this case. The main proponent is the former mayor of the town who is Muslim. The location is next to houses, a large park and the fire house. It is also near a farm that is a national historic site (French Army camped there on way to Yorktown). In short it is the last place one would see a new Mosque or Church or anything built that is not residential. As a matter of fact the current ISBR (Islamic Center of Basking Ridge) sits in a house. They bought a residential lot behind that house for the purpose of having enough land for the Mosque.
Having said that, on the other hand is the fact that down the street (less than a half mile) is a huge presbetyrian church. Hard to argue against having another similar structure when one already exists. The only argument is the proximity to the fire house and the park (literally across the street).
Regardless of who won this, a lawsuit would have been forthcoming. Unfortunately, at public hearings many residents came forth with concerns about Islam which degenerated into the hysterical. While I don’t want it in my back yard for the reasons of knowing that it will be no more than my local terror recruiting station, that simply can’t factor into the land use board’s decision. I submit that it did not as they articulated legitimate reasons but the ISBR is grabbing the public hearing statements, not made by the land use board or espoused by them, to cry bigotry.
The local paper is more entertaining these days, that is for sure. I would say I look forward to the fight but we all know how this ends in good old Jersey. Mosquedonalds being build in 3, 2, 1. We all knew it was inevitable but I suppose everyone has a little Don Quixote in them.
IMO the real way to fight this is for someone to buy the houses next to the soon to be Mosque site, and they will be for sale for cheap. Apply to the land use board for building a monument to women’s rights or to run a pig farm (farming is already done next door) or even to put up a church and have the land use board approve it and quickly. Then watch as the same former mayor and the ISBR sue in the same court as they are suing in now to shut it down.
Saw a piece somewhere recently that gave number of 2200 mosques open today here in the good old US of A. A common thread, ties to the Muslim Brotherhood are the prevailing nature of their governance.. Or so I heard. Now, why should anyone who is peace loving CAIR ;-?
And right down the road from the new mega-mosque going up in Bridgewater Township. We're being surrounded!
I used to live there. A very beautiful, rural hilly area. There are some super-rich folks, including my ex’s family.
Some commute to NYC.
It’s not a place you think would be ‘Jersey’.
Muslims and a mosque would be highly abnormal there.
It really surprised me to see this town name in a post.
‘Seal’ use to live down the road from me.
My former residence:
A state record atypical buck was shot on Lake Rd not far from there. Let the Muslims beware that that area is an epicenter for the 2nd amendment.
He will then send his poison dwarf and The Department of Jihad..
Neighboring town, Bedminster was nice. Delorian, Forbes, Jackie O. Dillon, JFKS treasury secretary had a sprawling estate. If I remember right, some Middle East king purchased property there too.
Spent my youth there.
The mega mosque in bridgewater... my brother had his wedding party there before it became a battle post for jihad.
