A contributing factor to moving candy and chocolate manufacturing out of the country is our already existing sugar tariffs. A pound of sugar brought in from outside the U.S. into a Hershey plant in Pennsylvania gets a tariff. The Mexican or Canadian candy bar with THE SAME SUGAR already in it does not.
MANY years ago, Apple used to assemble expensive laptops in this country. Then, a tariff was put on the LCD screens (we still had a small LCD screen industry then). Rather than pay the tariff, Apple moved production to Ireland, again using the same screens they had already been using.
Too work, tariffs have to be employed across the board, and not disproportionately against companies that were already headquartered or manufacturing here.
The Mexican Oreos taste HORRIBLE!
