JACKSON, Miss. — The Latest on Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant signing a bill law that allows religious groups and some private employers to refuse service to gay couples based on religious beliefs (all times local):

New York's governor has banned nonessential state-funded travel to Mississippi after that state's governor signed a law allowing religious groups and some businesses to refuse service to gay couples.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the ban Tuesday, the same day Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant signed the measure, which supporters say will protect those who have religious objections to same-sex marriage.

.
Last week Cuomo, a Democrat, banned state-funded travel to North Carolina after lawmakers there blocked anti-discrimination protections for gay, lesbian and transgender people.

This stunt is going to age fast. First, when these yahoos discover that the scorned states don’t care what they think, a second when people ask why their state is paying for “non essential travel” in the first place.

Sounds like the states are starting to come apart again...just when the parties and the political system itself is showing signs of coming apart as well.

Are we going down this road again?

Onoz!! No Noo Yawkers to deal with??? Whatever will we do? I note that the policy seems to have a lot of loopholes; only “nonessential” travel and so on. Is there anything else we can enact to get them to tighten that up, and close the back door, er.....um.......

Pretty soon, no one will be able to leave NY. If I ever find a down side, I’ll pass it along.

Exactly right. Those tax payer funded trips are nothing but political junkets. Let those damn mayors pay for their own travel expenses.

The law has already had an incredibly beneficial effect if it keeps the vile, corrupt Andrew Cuomo and his ilk out of Mississippi.

Can they ban travel to Texas while they’re at it?

That is probably fine with Missippi, doubt they want New Yorkers down there anyway.

I’d love to see that but it would be just as illegal as what NY is trying to do.

I’m just curious; doesn’t the commerce clause apply to states dealing with other states? That there is not only no legal foundation for an economic boycott, but a specific order not to do it?

Seems like something entertaining for a lawyer to pursue.

SWEET! Constitutional carry is well on its way to becoming Mississippi law and now liberal jackasses are promising not to come here. Could it get any better?

“I’d love to see that but it would be just as illegal as what NY is trying to do.”

Who cares about laws anymore? The left has declared the constitution and any and all laws breakable at will.

"New York's governor has banned nonessential state-funded travel to Mississippi "

My question: Why is the State of New York funding nonessential travel anywhere? Maybe that's why the taxes are so high!

(I HOPE Mississippi isn't funding nonessential travel to New York -- or any other state.)
