Report: Guns Stolen from Licensed Dealers at Rate of .039%

A new Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) report shows that guns were stolen from licensed dealers at a rate of .039 percent in 2015.

This revelation comes even as the Obama administration is working to finalize and implement new rules for Federal Firearm License holders (FFLs) regarding the reporting of stolen weapons. Breitbart News previously reported that Obama’s January 5 executive gun controls would place even more reporting requirements –read, regulations — on the backs of FFLs, and CPRC’s new numbers highlight the lack of necessity for these new measures.

According to CPRC, there were approximately 16 millions guns sold by FFLs in 2015, and 6,163 guns were stolen from FFLs. That is “a rate of guns stolen of 0.039%.” And to provide some some idea of where this rate falls compared to theft of other goods, CPRC points to the National Retail Federation/University of Florida National Retail Security Survey, which shows “the rate of theft from retail stores generally” in 2014 was 1.15 percent. That is “29.5 times higher” than the rate of theft from gun stores.. . .

Perhaps someone should find and report the statistics of federal cops/law enforcement individuals....who’ve lost their guns. That might make a good comparison.

This fulfills the two goals 0bama had in mind. Siphoning more taxpayer funds to a Federal agency and increasing economic burdens on more small businesses.

The dealers could cut that rate in half by just selling twice as many guns. Kill two birds, so to speak, with one stone. :=)

“Leakage” of firearms from police forces and military would be an interesting statistic. The Armed Forces carry weapons 24/7 in training exercises, there have to be opportunities for theft and diversion.

People just have to understand...”Big Brother” is watching out for you and will make you safe from guns.

Nah! It’s a way to produce one more sheet of government paper a vendor has to submit. That one sheet of paper will warrant thousands of NEW government employees to process and control...thus inventing a new need and filling it to protect the people.

See how simple it is to grow the government? How do you think it got so large? Answer: PAPERWORK!

Remember, stealing from a licenced dealer is a FEDERAL crime.
Dealers and Curio and Relic licence holders are already
required to report thefts. What else are they slipping in,
in these new regulations??

Your comment about C&R sparks the question as to how many of the 6,163 stolen firearms were Curios and Relics.

As an aside, some recent burglaries of gun stores are interesting from several angles.

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2016/03/27/ventura-police-search-for-suspect-in-connection-with-gun-store-break-in/

First of all, to get through barriers, steel doors and steel bars, they are using larger and larger vehicles, most recently, a semi-truck.

Second, they are not trying to steal rare, high end guns, but guns that are common and popular, and thus less likely to be quickly identified as stolen.

And third, they do not “dilly-dally”, stealing and getting out of the gun store very quickly. In this case, in under a minute. This implies not just good planning, but training.

The unanswered question is where are these stolen guns going? You figure if they are doing a high degree of difficulty, high degree of risk, for just a small number of cheap guns, they must have a very good reason to do so.
