If the RNC wants to play stupid, Trump can run as 3rd party and still win in November.

Then they will be attempting to stop us. And... that’s not gonna happen. We’re done.

The Rules Committee sets the Convention Rules prior to the Convention in Cleveland.

The question is, does the body of delegates IN the convention get to approve the Rules and/or rules changes?

I am also hearing show on news reports that the candidates with the most delegates will be allowed to set their people on the Rules Committee and therefore the Rules changes should be set for the upcoming Convention, which are agreeable to TRUMP and Cruz.

Can’t bank that, but that is the word I heard.

We can google the Republican National Convention Rules 2016.
Supposedly they have a delegate graphic up that explains how a Contested (OPEN) Convention would work, in the event that happens.

“I’ve voted Republican since 1980. If they give the nomination to anyone but the guy with the most delegates and votes I never will again. I won’t play in a rigged game.”

Should they change the rules to let Trump have the nomination if he has the most delegates, but not the majority?

If they pull this sh1t, do they really believe conservatives are going to play their game once again? And vote for their uniparty candidate?

Seriously?

They are going to wish they lost by Romney’s numbers.

Did he overestimate his strength? Or, is he getting robbed?

I think we both know the difference.

Either way, your guy isn’t going anywhere, if TRUMP is taken out. (Your guy isn’t anywhere near 1237.)

What the hell do you think that Third Ballot is about?

It’s sure not to nominate your guy. ROTFLOLOL!!!

This article is pure bunk. The rule which says that 1,237 must be achieved can be altered, but 1,237 would still represent a passing vote.

Look at this way: Suppose the party decided that a plurality can nominate a candidate. Fine... because the rule which says 1,237 must be reached is not a permanent rule. Essentially, the party can bind delegates to vote to approve whoever achieves a plurality.

But let’s say that the party decides that it wants 1,300 delegates to be needed for a nomination. Can’t happen. A mere majority can’t bind a majority. When Trump gets 1,237 votes, his nomination passes, and the previous vote is over-ruled.

The sticky part is what happens if Trump gets a mere plurality? Then, in the second round, any delegate can vote for any qualified candidate. Under Rule 40B, only Trump and Cruz will likely qualify. Cruz can pick up all of the other non-Trump delegates and win if the delegates prefer him. Is that fair? *IF* Cruz blocks Trump from a majority, it’d be because he started winning majorities once the field cleared, and the argument could be made that demonstrated that he was the favored choice of the majority of voters.

But Rule 40B is also a temporary rule, could it change? Theoretically yes. Practically, no. Trump and Cruz supporters would know that if the rule is changed, it’d be to allow someone ELSE to be nominated. So they’d almost certainly block that from happening.

The only way it COULD happen would be if Trump decided to throw his support behind a Grand Compromise candidate. But I can’t imagine who that could be, or how the delegates could imagine that such a person could be “electable.”

I am also hearing show on news reports that the candidates with the most delegates will be allowed to set their people on the Rules Committee and therefore the Rules changes should be set for the upcoming Convention, which are agreeable to TRUMP and Cruz.

Actually, each state gets two delegates on each of the committees. How the delegates are selected for the committees varies from state to state. In some states, the candidates winning the most delegates get to select them; in others, they are elected at the state conventions. For example, in Louisiana, none of the Trump delegates were placed on any of the convention committees - 5 were Cruz delegates and 1 was uncommitted. That was because the Cruz campaign knew that the committee spots were allocated by the state convention, and he had his people organized to win election to those spots. So unless Trump gets some people who know what they are doing, he can get outmaneuvered on the committees and it would all be completely within the rules.

The question is, does the body of delegates IN the convention get to approve the Rules and/or rules changes?

The delegates at the convention have to approve the rules. But if the chairman of the convention (Paul Ryan this time) wishes, he can have it approved on a voice vote, meaning no matter who yells the loudest, he can decide that the "ayes" have it.

I presume you were saying that to the #NeverTrump crowd, and not to me, right?

I’m voting for Trump.

I’m hoping to appeal to the better sensibilities of all the people in the #NeverTrump camp, so that they will join us and vote for the only candidate that can, and will, beat #NeverHillary.

My prediction, just bookmarking here: TPTB will have Rubio unsuspend his campaign as soon as the winner take all states are done and there’ll be 4 candidates at convention.

The master plan will be Rubio on 4th/5th ballot.

For the record, if I’m right, I don’t think this plan will work.

I didn’t say change the rules. They should respect the voters and give it to the person won the most, not someone came in short or didn’t compete at all.
