I believe the more he digs himself in a hole due to the lying, the more unstable he will become. Covering this up and lying about it will be his own downfall.
My brain's telling me that the reports so far are only rumor during a political cycle. It also tells me that this is none of our business. Even if Ted did have an extramarital affair, perhaps he and his wife have healed and gotten past it. Millions of American families go through this heartache. Some make it, some don't.
