As I told another FREEPER, that was the plan all along and why the GOPe has been totally comfortable supporting Cruz as their tool to force a Contested Convention. They had two reasons - (1) Cruz was the only person who could, at whatever level, compete against Trump and (2) at a Contested Convention, they could then release detailed information on the (alleged) affairs and use that to take Cruz out of the running. Consequently, they could then put a third person that is neither Trump nor Cruz.

In a nutshell, this is why the GOPe were totally comfortable supporting Cruz. They had a poison pill prepared.

No matter what Romney and Bush might say, there was no way they'd support Cruz all the way. They always planned on having someone else get selected at a Brokered Convention, and thus the story was meant to come out the moment it was for certain that Trump had not breached the minimum cutoff.

For that matter, the GOPe would probably have blamed the leak on a sour Trump.

You are the second Freeper to suggest this ( could be the first and I only read you second).

There is more supporting (but not 100% damning) evidence today from a writer who said Heidi insisted on only male staffers. So there!

We know Ted’s not gay.

Agreed. It still hasn't dawned on the "off the charts brilliant" guy in the room that he's been played for the patsy. The establishment snickers behind his back all the while. Such a tool!

You are absolutely correct-your analysis is spot-on. I never believed the GOPe would ever permit Cruz to be nominated.
They want a brokered convention!!

I buy it. That also explains why the mainstream media, which hates Cruz, is softpedaling the story about the affairs, going so far as to fire guys who mention it. Twitter is also purging tweets referring to it and suppressing the fact that it's a trending story.

It's too soon to knock Cruz out. If he implodes now Trump easily gets a majority of delegates and then there's no stopping him.

I saw the same thing two weeks ago.
The GOP-e hates Cruz almost as much as they hate Trump.
This is their plan.
The MSM-Faux News take out Trump.
Rumor mixed with facts take out Cruz.

Romney-Jeb run to the rescue and the GOP-e is safe to loose another election by blaming the Tea Party again.
