I think the F-16 was front line until 5 years later the twin-engine F-18 came about. I’m not saying a single engine can’t be front line.. The F-16 is a great lightweight and nimble aircraft BUT wouldn’t you rather fly a twin-engine like the F-18 or F-22 just to feel a bit more reassured that you can lose one engine and keep flying?
