It's a sewer out there.

Chill out people! Everybody is churning out sleaze, and it needs to stop. We are better than this! I've seen all sorts of sleazy attacks directed at both candidates, and this is just wrong. People keep repeating the most unmitigated crap about the candidates to the extent that they have completely forgotten about being fair minded.

If it's against the other guy, they repeat it, even if it is silly. So many people seem to have lost the ability to think critically, and have seemingly turned into a gaggle of emotional hate-spewing babies.

It's not good for the Party, it's not good for Free Republic, and it's not good for America. I urge everyone to stop it!

Evidently, the GOPe has never heard of it. And, evidently, neither have the majority of delusional touchie-feelie Freepers of dubious provenance.

One of the things I like about Trump is he really knows how to fight. It's a shame more of the GOP has never caught on to the trick.

The bonus would be historical disgrace, and a legacy only marginally better than Obama's...

I think that in a fairly written history, the legacies of both Clinton and Obama would be right up their with Aaron Burr and Benedict Arnold.

I’m not a trump supporter, but my goodness- I would not like it one bit if people on here did to him what they are doing to Ted- jumping on a rag sheet scandal and attacking anyone that tells them to be cautious and wait for facts- IF ted is guilty, He’ll pay the price- but it aught not be a cause for celebration- but sadly many are celebrating even before they know for sure- The NE said it, and that’s apparently plenty good enough for them- it is reminiscent of how the left operates-

Exactly how I feel. People seem willing to sully the name and reputation of what appears to be a good and decent man on hearsay and rumor.

We shouldn't be doing this to Cruz or Trump. We should take time to let the facts come out before we jump on some sort of condemnation bandwagon.

Also the candidates themselves should tone this stuff down. It won't do anybody any good if they do such a great job tearing each other up that there is nothing left with which they can fight Hillary.

We should not be trying to make perfect the enemy of good.

Unfortunately, there are far too many people in and out of politics who do exactly that. There never is a perfect solution to anything.

I have stopped spending so much time here at FR lately because of all the nasty attacks. I did not donate this last time either for the first time in years.

I've been thinking of suggesting we take the lemons and make lemonade. For ever person that posts an Article saying something nasty about one candidate, they have to donate $20.00 to Free Republic. For everyone who posts a nastygram in a thread, they are on the hook to donate $1.00.

Sort of like a "swear jar" if you know what I mean.

I am sick of this place! I voted for Cruz in the primary and I will vote for the nominee no matter who it is in the general. That is all I can do.

I did too, and I will too! And that is all we can do!

the problem though is that IF ted is exonerated, those who support trump will never accept it and claim he is a cheater who has gotten away with it- The gallows have been built and they will not rest until they can use it- its a case of bloodlust- pure and simple- I’m calling it now, that if Ted is exonerated, the threads sliming him will increase, not decrease-

I’m going to go home and soak in my septic tank.

If you've been reading some of the threads, that is exactly like what it feels like.

I wish people would just drop the toxic smears against either candidate. We can be polite to each other, and we should.

Prefer a Cruz appointee too but Trump would have to do better than Hillary.

Exactly. And the bonus is the possibility of seeing that witch go to jail. Won't happen if she wins.

No there isn't. Sometimes you find yourself on the horns of a dilemma. Both men have some positives in common. Both men have some positives that are different from one to the other.

We ought not disagree with people who see some benefits of a particular candidate outweighing the benefits of the other candidate. We ought to make our cases why the one we prefer is best, and then leave it to the remaining voters to decide whom they like better.

Attacking the other guy is just not helpful.

$100 for vanities!

Aw, come on now! Sometimes it's worth reading what an individual Freeper has to say. Not all vanities are bad.

:)

For some reason this reminds me of what Madison said:

But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.

I wish men could let themselves be ruled by their better spirit than their baser instincts.

Between both parties, these folks really are the best we can do?

We truly are circling the drain.

Unfortunately, the best and wisest among us are not the kind of people who would want to be politicians.

Very well done. Very well done. Would you happen to be the same Publius that was writing on the Natural Born citizen issue? The Publius who's writings were mirrored on so many sites?

They are not that bad. They've just been hammered quite a bit.

Alternatives I would have liked would have been Scott Walker or Allen West.

We truly are circling the drain.

The whole culture is. I keep saying we have become Idiocracy.

Even so, that was a very well crafted piece of work. It must have taken you hours of research to write it, and possibly an hour to type it all.

I haven't done anything on that level of quality, but I have had a few things that I have written that received good reviews, and of which I was moderately proud.

It takes time to write at that level of quality, and that is if someone has the capability to do it at all.

Unfortunately, the attention span around here does not always make the effort worthwhile. Sometimes such an effort is tantamount to casting pearls before swine. It just doesn't get the sort of appreciation that it deserves.

The essay was distilled from a lecture on federalism that I gave to Tea Party groups when I was living in Georgia from 2011-14.

A book based on our (me and Billthedrill) FReeper Book Club on the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers is now being shopped to agents. That required research!
