President Barack Obama says Republicans’ refusal to consider his Supreme Court nominee will threaten the integrity of the justice system and prove that the judicial nomination process is “beyond repair.”

In an op-ed in the Houston Chronicle, Obama says the fight is bigger than “a single election.” He argues that the election-year blockade could make it impossible for future presidents to install judges on the court. He says that would “betray the vision of our founding.” …

If anything, “the vision of our founding” was not for the Senate to be a rubber stamp for the executive.

It was OK when the Democrats did it to us, though.

Will any Republican speak up to defend their action? Probably not.

First. Harry Reid and then Senator Obama unsuccessfully filibustered Alito’s nomination. Then, when Reid unilaterally abolished the filibuster for all other Presidential nominations, he specifically retained the filibuster for Supreme Court nominations.

Clearly Reid believed that the right to filibuster Supreme Court nominations was a legitimate and important right for the Senate to retain.

So at least 34 Republican Senators need to publicly announce that they are going to follow the Reid Rule and filibuster Obama’s nominee.

Biden Rule.. jeez memories are short..

Heck - Obama is the 1st president to ever argue against a sitting president nominating a justice and then become president..

Everybody needs to twit/book/mail/call people and remind them 8 years ago they argued the same thing, in reverse.. sheesh..

“He says that would “betray the vision of our founding.” …”

The fact that he’s in the White Hut “betrays the vision of our founding!” The FF’s just never figured that we’d ever have to deal with a foreign half-breed muslim in the Presidency. We need an amendment to the Constitution forbidding any Muslim ( in the future) from being President!

The Constitution does not list a time period for judicial nominations. As usual, Obama, the constitutional “expert” has it wrong—completely wrong. This guy just loves making things up.

Sen. Chuck Schumer said in July 2007 that no George W. Bush nominee to the Supreme Court should be approved, except in extraordinary circumstances, 19 months before a new president was set to be inaugurated.

“We should not confirm any Bush nominee to the Supreme Court, except in extraordinary circumstances,” Schumer, a New York Democrat, said in prepared remarks to the American Constitution Society, a liberal legal organization.

Schumer cited ideological reasons for the delay.
