Poland's prime minister says his country is no longer prepared to take the 7,000 refugees it agreed to accept in negotiations with the European Union because of the deadly Brussels attacks.
Beata Szydlo said on Wednesday that she does "not see any possibility for the refugees to come to Poland" after explosions rocked the Belgian capital a day earlier, according to Polish broadcaster Superstacja.
Poland had planned to admit an initial 400 refugees this year, and the rest would be allowed in over the next three years.
Last year, thousands of Poles took to the streets and social media to promote participation in anti-refugee marches across the country, organised by far-right nationalist movements such as the National Radical Camp.
In October, President Andrzej Duda said the government should take steps to protect its citizens from refugees bringing in "possible epidemics".
The comments by the president, whose role is largely ceremonial, echo those of Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the populist Law and Justice party, of which Duda is a member.
Kaczynski had spoken of "cholera in the Greek islands" and "dysentery in Vienna", and he accused refugees of "bringing in all kinds of parasites, which are not dangerous in their own countries, but which could prove dangerous for the local populations" in Europe.
Physical abuse of Poland's barely visible refugees has also been reported.
In November, George Mamlouk, a Christian refugee from Syria's city of Raqqa, was attacked in the street of Poznan by three young men who broke his nose and a finger, as well as injuring his leg.
A crowd of onlookers gathered - some watched passively; others were chanting for his attackers to "kill him", Mamlouk said.
Poland has long been reluctant to take in refugees, but finally agreed to accept more than 5,000 of the 120,000 people to be shared between the 28-member European Union - in addition to an initial 2,000.
Good for them.
Maybe some muslim nations will take them? Yeah, right.
Merkel however -will take up the slack. She needs more rapists in Germany
Yet Obama and our Congress continue to bring these people in by the thousands. I hope all Congress flips, loses their seats.
Why should Poland harbor terrorists? Belgium, France and Germany seem eager to, but the rest of Europe doesn’t want to join them.
France gets bombed, Prez said stop refugees from coming in. Gets a call and than states he will accept them again.
Stick to your guns Poland.
A little "Regime Change" and good dose of "Color Revolution" will change that attitude.
The irony is that Poland may wind up taking in the Volksdeutsche after the Muslims kick them out of Germany.
#### Germany then.
This whole article is GREAT.
they really were not hospitable to the “refugees” :)
History is something. Fighting on horseback against the German blitz way back when, and now one of the few really FREE countries in Europe.
What if during WWII our president, FDR, and Churchill, had insisted on continuing to allow open immigration from Germany and Japan? We are currently at war with radical Islam—they declared it, and are bringing it. This is insanity.

The EU will come down hard on Poland.

True but it would be much worse taking a lot of the refugees.
Shameful.
Would you please return the favor that I did for you and explain your statement?
Germany crushed Poland at the beginning of WWII.
One wouldn’t have thought that Poland would be standing stronger in the face of the enemy than Germany over 75 years later.
And making decisions to ensure its survival while Germany makes decisions to ensure its destruction.
Anything, it seems, can change with enough time and circumstances. Just amazes me, is all.
Like Cuba crisis almost leading to nuclear war, then several decades later the USSR falls.
Time, circumstances, the men on the world stage at the time, it fascinates me.
Finally, someone over there is waking up and smelling the coffee.
If anyone is wondering....
Southern Poland is very very nice. Zakopane is a nice little resort town in the Tatra mountains not far from the Slovakian border. The closest major city is Krakow which is quite nice.
Central Poland is not too interesting and unless you speak Polish you’re not going to find many English speakers. Most of the bigger cities will have students that can help with English and chances are you’ll find Germans that speak English. good cell reception so for about $50 you can get a burner prepaid phone from Real or Tesco and use google translate. (10 gigs for $10)
Warsaw is not too interesting. Old town is nice to visit for half a day. There are some good museums about the uprising. Heading north you can stop in Tarun to see one of the only cities that wasn’t completely destroyed by the Nazis. The central museum is a nice collection of midieval engineering and astronomical pieces being Torun is the birthplace of Copurnicous. Grudziadz is a nice place to stop to see the river front graineries. Stroll up the hill a few miles and you’ll come across the old military fort. Part of it is active and off limits but the surrounding area has all the old dugouts and brick works.
Up at the coast there is Gdansk which is like visiting Long Beach. not much there but the birthplace of “Solidarity” is at the shipyards there. Sopot is a trendy little coastal town that is fun to visit too.
But don’t forget... Go to Czech Republic. It is a beautiful place to visit. especially the border towns along the Poland, Czech and German border. CR is holding fast against the invasion as well.
I stand simpy amazed at the suicide pact in which the EU has entered! If you set out to completely destroy Continental Europe, you could not have done a better job than the EU countries have concocted.
That is why a nation should never give up any of its sovereignty. That includes a lot of the trade agreements our politicians make for us.
Good points!
The Polish people suffered under the Nazis and then the Communists and they want no more misery and death.
