Normally I’d be against it but it’s Yale, a school full of hard leftists. So go ahead and tax them at Bernie levels (105%).

It’s interesting to note that, according to the article, the opponents of the new tax are R’s, while the proponents are all D’s. One would think that, because it is a leftist hotbed, the R’s would support the tax.

“Out of control government.”

Yes, but academia has gotten a free ride for a long time without paying taxes. Further, some universities grow their endowments on the basis of financial practices that are ‘at best’ treading the line between legal and illegal, and some of their actions are prosecutable. It’s very serious, and very real. Take that into account, and then ask yourself why institutions that have endowments of more than 25-30 billion dollars, and that have employees making high six and even seven figure salaries, should be exempt from taxes as ‘non for profits’, while the rest of us pay them?

If GE can move out, why can’t Yale?

Instead of taxing the endowment, simply stop all tax subsidies to them. Lots of colleges are getting tax free eminent domain for housing they rent out, homes taken to put in parking lots, labs where they take in industry research for grant money.

I say bring it on! New Haven is a $hit hole city, and Yale isn’t worth the cost of the powder it would cost to blow it to hell. So go on Connecticut, take ALL of Yaie’s edowment and shut it down. Knowing CT as we all do, they will spend all that money and have nothing to show for it!

If it tames liberal academia, we’ll have something to show for it.

New Haven is a $hit hole city,...

Went there once for an event at Yale, Late 1980s. Was not impressed at all with the exterior state of the building I went in.

I remember thinking Yale wasn't spending much on upkeep, and perhaps it was the because of the neighborhood?

Taxing Yale is a great idea. R's opposed to the idea are either simply dumb, or RINOs.

that will certainly guarantee more people going to Yale, won’t it?

The elitists are running out of people to steal from, so they are eating themselves like cannibals.
