Wrong. The question pertained to China's buildup in the South China Sea and Trump simply didn't understand the question. As such, he sure as hell showed he doesn't grasp the extent of China's aims in the South China Sea.
Trump said nothing about China's designs on the Spratley Islands and other expansion in that region, focusing on three main islands the Fiery Cross Reef, Mischief Reef, and the Subi Reef, while dredging and creating islands of their own. This causes major disruption in shipping in the area, not to mention an unprecedented military presence.
Trump stumbled in every direction in response to that question because he had no clue.
“Wrong. The question pertained to China’s buildup in the South China Sea and Trump simply didn’t understand the question. As such, he sure as hell showed he doesn’t grasp the extent of China’s aims in the South China Sea. “
He did, you didn’t understand his answer...trade, trade, trade...that is the strategic key to China, historically and today. Trump is ahead of the curve on just about every issue...and he is on this one as well. One dimensional thinkers like Cruz and most politicians simply do not get it. Trump does.
Exactly.
But maybe we should give Mr. Trump a break:
If the WaPo folks had asked him about building hotels in the South China Sea, I'm sure his answer would have had more substance.
(And ditto if they had asked him about building casinos, spas, golf courses or strip clubs. The South China Sea probably needs a few such establishments to cater to the thousands of Chinese military personnel stationed there.)
