‘Consider Sajith Abeyawickrama, 37, who was a celebrated anesthesiologist in his native Sri Lanka. But here in the United States, where he came in 2010 to marry, he cannot practice medicine’

Apologies for being too sharp with you re non UK doctors. I may have misread you as suggesting they could just come in.

The entry requirements for the UK are very tough. And as far as I am aware, they must undertake at least two years of training here irrespective of how superb a student or doctor they may have been back home. Dr I. N. Competent cannot just waltz into the UK and start ruining the NHS and lives with bad 3rd world abilities.

Due to our colonial links, we thankfully are highly regarded worldwide and get many first rate doctors from all over the world, inc India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Asia.....

I know the language requirements have recently been tightened in the UK: basic pass mark of excellent English now 75% not 70%. A non UK doctor here has to speak excellent English and understand it at a high level even just to get in.

Yes, surgery and okay even today.

“Since then, the UK has embraced all food cultures.”

Except Mexican food, actually, really good Tex-Mex. Can’t find it anywhere in the UK. Do you know of a place in London, Bristol or Manchester (my usual places).

A little bit of both, I guess.

As an American, and a Constitutionalist, I find abhorrent the thought of the government making you pay for coverage you have choice in selecting, just so you can pay for coverage of others.

Oh, doctor, could you not schedule my follow-up appointment for the morning you’re doing all your sex-change operations?

Fair point, Mexican is the one we are a bit slow on. Obviously to with lack of Mexicans in the UK. Spanish is more popular. I don’t like Mexican food, so I am not sure of any top places. London should have a few, Bristol I wouldn’t think so, Manchester you might get one or two.

Funny, in London there was the “Texas Embassy” Tex-Mex restaurant, just a block from Trafalgar Square, but it was just plain bland (https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x487604d1c539f619:0x2ab2dd65c329a1f4!2m5!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i100!3m1!7e1!4shttps://ssl.panoramio.com/photo/12418513!5sTexas+Embassy+and+London+-+Google+Search&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjjr6DA79LLAhVIGT4KHXCTD4gQoioIdTAK).

Then there is the combination Polish and Mexican food place in Shepherd Market. As you can imagine, awful: https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x48760528cc0a68ab:0x434973b52bcf7f71!2m5!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i100!3m1!7e1!4shttps://ssl.panoramio.com/photo/81508204!5sLautre+%26+Shepherds+Square+-+Google+Search&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi-lLqx8NLLAhUIWj4KHRiuAIYQoioIczAK

Still looking. . .at least the Mexican Bistro is walking distance from the RAF Club.
