The House voted Thursday to add its voice to the Supreme Court case seeking to stop President Obamas deportation amnesty, escalating the stakes in whats shaping up as a major re-calibration of presidential powers.
Speaker Paul D. Ryan pushed the vote, saying he wanted the entire House to go on record defending its powers against encroachment by the executive branch.
This is not a question of whether or not we are for or against any certain policy, Mr. Ryan said. Members who are making immigration policy arguments are missing the point here. This comes down to a much more fundamental question. It is about the integrity of our Constitution.
The 234-181 vote gives Mr. Ryan the power to file an amicus brief with the Supreme Court supporting Texas and more than two dozen other states that sued to stop the amnesty.
Democrats rejected Mr. Ryans plea to defend Congresss powers, saying the vote was instead another in a long line of GOP attacks on Mr. Obama and on illegal immigrants. The president has claimed executive authority to halt deportations and grant tentative legal status to nearly half of the illegal immigrant population.
You want to see people deported. Why dont you stand up and say it? said Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, Illinois Democrat.
The issue has become ensnared in election-year politics, with Democrats saying Republicans were following the lead of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, who has made immigration enforcement a major part of his campaign.

The five Republican turncoats voting nay are:

Mario Diaz-Balart (FL)
Bob Dold (Ill)
Richard Hanna (NY)
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL)
“It is about the integrity of our Constitution”
Since when is ANYTHING about the Constitution?
It’s about what you can get away with.
And with Ryan, the answer is ANYTHING.
Tea Party folks in these districts....ought to organize and give these people competition.
You want to see people deported. Why dont you stand up and say it?
Si, se puede Luis.
Wonder too, if any of these republicans (by name only) voted for Hilary during the Tuesday Florida vote?
they’re gearing up to control Trump
has made immigration enforcement ...
You mean, immigration enforcement was a law BEFORE the election? How Novel. The rats don’t want to follow the law? How typical.
Well that ought to work out well now...
176 low life democrats voted to defy the law and to simply allow illegal immigrants to stay as many as they want, because it benefits Democrats politically. Disgusting anti-American scum these democrats.
At least 4 USSC “Justices” could care less about the law or the constitution. They vote like communists. They know how they are going to vote before the hearings even start.
Anything that goes before the USSC right now can only end badly.
What have these brave GOPe’rs done to nail employers who hire these illegals, to put and end to all the Federal and state perks they claim entitlement to, and to finally kill this sanctuary city nonsense?
A whole lot of nothing. That’s what.
You’re right, they’ve sat back and allowed 0bama to do whatever he pleases including the criminal illegal alien catch and release fiasco.
Too little, too late.
Obama’s stooges are in place on the Court and they have heard their Master’s Call.
Well, well, well ....
Ryan rings a bell for the Constitution but stops short of using the full power of Congress.
This is for show only as Ryan has already funded Obama’s amnesty. Same as funding PP but having a separate show vote to defund PP which was vetoed.
He wouldn’t allow any amendments to the CROmnibus that restricted funds for
Obama’s DAPA.
Obama can do whatever he wants.
Hi pepsionice,
Thank you for your comment. I needed it to drag me back to the surface of what is important. Yes, we need the continuation of the Tea Party influence long after this presidential election. Especially since it appears that the current presidential front runners of both parties will never know how to spell T-E-A, unless we spot them two letters.
The House, and Senate will be our last line of defense against a sprawling government; but only if we have sufficient representation.
Of course, the more that stay the more that will vote for the commies.
Just another Dog and Pony Show.
CONGRESS has the Authority to tell the Courts WHAT TO DO:
Article 3, section2:
in all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.
“WITH SUCH EXCEPTIONS, AND UNDER SUCH REGULATIONS AS THE CONGRESS SHALL MAKE.”
CONGRESS IS ALLOWING ALL OF IT!!
As recent events illustrate once again, scotus was never designed to secure federalism.
Congress is a transparent charade that gives the patina of legitimacy to tyranny.
There is little time.
Ryan the GOPe House are wimps.
Congress is an equal branch of govt with executive.
Why hide behind the skirts of the judicial branch?
They have the ability to go it alone.
DO SOMETHING RYAN OR GET THE HELL OUT OF DC.
