Totenberg: Obama Got 'Backchannels' GOP Will Move SCOTUS Nomination After Election
NewsBusters ^

Posted on 03/16/2016 6:14:18 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

On today's With All Due Respect, NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg broke some news, saying she thought President Obama "got a message from Republicans via backchannels that they would probably move this [Supreme Court] nomination after the presidential election."

Let's game-plan this out. If it means that Senate Republicans would move to confirm President Obama's pick of Merrick Garland even if a Republican were elected president, it would be a huge backstab of the Republican base. But if Republicans would only move Garland if a Dem wins, thus depriving Hillary or whomever of the chance to nominate an unreconstruced radical, then it could be a crafty maneuver. Totenberg added that once Obama got such a concession, Dems would "work very hard" to get other concessions, forcing a hearing and a vote.

Also, with Trump at the top of the ticket, it’s very likely that the Senate will be strongly Dem after the election anyway, so probably Merrick would be better than what Hillary might propose to a Dem Senate next year.

“America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.” — Claire Wolfe

We are currently struggling with the ballot box and the very real fear that the ballot box is a fraud and that someone will be forced down our throats at the convention. I hope that doesn’t happen.

But in a similar vein, EVERYONE in Washington knows that the Republican voters don’t want Obama to put someone else on the Supreme Court. If the Republican congress engages in Kabuki theater and waits until after the election and then gives Obama what he wants (as usual) then it will be an additional repudiation of the value of the ballot box.

Cartridge box is next. I don’t know what Claire Wolfe is thinking, but I know what I’m thinking.

Stunts like this are exactly the reason voters do not trust the GOP.

The GOP would sooner have an obama judge than let Trump choose a nominee - a nominee they have full control over approving or not

Such mindless blind hatred

More malfeasance

Why would any regular person give donations to the GOP? Maybe they don’t need the people anymore

I’d like to think that something on that level of treachery would be the straw that breaks the revolutionary camel’s back, that millions of patriot in full 2nd Amendment regalia would descend on DC with plenty of tar, feathers and rope. One can dream.

Totenberg: Obama Got 'Backchannels' GOP Will Move SCOTUS Nomination After Election

So in other words, after allowing Obama to use their inaction on his Supreme Court nominee to beat up Republicans as proof of being obstructionist, that same Republican Congress is going to approve the nomination after the election? The GOP leadership is stupid but I can't believe they'd be that stupid.

They’ll pull the same bullshit that they did right after the 2014 elections. Passed a huge budget, when it could have, should have, waited for the new, and Republican controlled, Congress. But, what does it matter to the Uniparty!
