Former House Speaker John Boehner has taken a step back from his promise on Wednesday morning to back House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)56% for the GOPs 2016 nomination.
He has endorsed Governor John Kasich, his spokesman, David Schnittger, told Breitbart News via email.
His off-the-cuff comments this morning [in Florida] were about a hypothetical scenario in which none of the current candidates are able to secure the nomination at the convention, said Schnittger, a senior policy advisor at the D.C. lobbying firm, Squire Patton Boggs.
Establishment GOP leaders are hoping to defeat Donald Trumps drive for the nomination, and hope to vote through an establishment-friendly replacement, such as Kasich or Ryan if Trump is not backed by a majority of the delegates on the first ballot at the July convention in Cleveland
On Tuesday, Kasich won his home-state primary in Ohio, giving him a platform to run for the nomination.
On Wednesday morning, at an event in Florida, Boehner declared his support for Ryan. If we dont have a nominee who can win on the first ballot, Im for none of the above, Boehner said. They all had a chance to win. None of them won. So Im for none of the above. Im for Paul Ryan to be our nominee.
But Boehners support for Kasich may be only a half-step back, because Gov. John Kasich shares the same cheap-labor, high-profits economic policy pushed by Ryan.

I know a Republican Congressman from Ohio who is rooting for Kasich to get the nomination, even though I have told him that its mathematically impossible for Kasich to get the nomination.
It makes me wonder if he knows something I dont.”
Next week he will endorse Lindsay Graham. I mind is a terrible thing to lose. Trump has driven these people off the deep end. They have become truly psychotic. If he really wants to help Katich he should threaten to endorse Donald Trump. There is a pinko on FOX who has actually figured this out. He claims that he supports Trump.
Forgot. His nickname was Ka-sicko.
Ah, I’d mercifully forgotten that.
Just go away, John, PLEASE...just go away.
Sounds like he does slow down on the drinking occasionally and remember what he said.
Kiss of death!
They are all using Common Core math—that’s why Kasich is still in the race. He put his eight in the thousand’s column.
