Former House Speaker John Boehner has taken a step back from his promise on Wednesday morning to back House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)56% for the GOPs 2016 nomination.
He has endorsed Governor John Kasich, his spokesman, David Schnittger, told Breitbart News via email.
His off-the-cuff comments this morning [in Florida] were about a hypothetical scenario in which none of the current candidates are able to secure the nomination at the convention, said Schnittger, a senior policy advisor at the D.C. lobbying firm, Squire Patton Boggs.
Establishment GOP leaders are hoping to defeat Donald Trumps drive for the nomination, and hope to vote through an establishment-friendly replacement, such as Kasich or Ryan if Trump is not backed by a majority of the delegates on the first ballot at the July convention in Cleveland
On Tuesday, Kasich won his home-state primary in Ohio, giving him a platform to run for the nomination.
On Wednesday morning, at an event in Florida, Boehner declared his support for Ryan. If we dont have a nominee who can win on the first ballot, Im for none of the above, Boehner said. They all had a chance to win. None of them won. So Im for none of the above. Im for Paul Ryan to be our nominee.
But Boehners support for Kasich may be only a half-step back, because Gov. John Kasich shares the same cheap-labor, high-profits economic policy pushed by Ryan.

After sobering up in the morning, he remembered what he had done the night before
Here it comes. The Establishment has their candidate, the hell with the voters or the fact that Kasich would lose in a landslide to Hillary.
You don’t think he actually drinks the good stuff now that he has to pay for it himself....
And if you talk about destruction, don’t you know that you can count me IN...
I guess Boner must have dried out and realized he jumped the gun on this.
Who cares what this person thinks isn’t he retired now?
YIKES! I’ve drunk some cheap stuff in my time, but that is scary.
Must have been drunk when he made the Ryan endorsement.
Who is this “Boehner” person the article refers to?
So David Schnittger is employed by a lobbying firm PLUS he’s Boner’s spokesperson. Naturally.
He was drunk and let their plans slip out.
Or he sobered up.
Does Boehner think this position is better?
No, I followed a crash course in reversing my Type 2 Diabetes, and I am glad I did.
Still drunk...
Soros reminded him of the game plan.
Hey John!
Good thing you didn’t endorse Kasich before the Ohio primary, or he’d have lost.
