Trump says he will skip Monday's Fox News debate
Politico ^ | March 16, 2016 | Eliza Collins

'I think it's enough,' Trump says about the primetime debates.

Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will not participate in Monday's Fox News debate, and will instead speak at a conference of the pro-Israel lobby, AIPAC.

The Republican frontrunner was asked on "Fox & Friends" whether he planned to attend the debate in Utah, and said he couldn't because he made other plans.

“Nobody told me about debates. As you saw I thought the last debate on CNN was the last debate," Trump said on Wednesday morning.

“I’m doing a major speech in front of a very important group of people that night," Trump said, adding that it had been "scheduled a while ago."

"I think it's enough," he added, about the dozen debates the Republican candidates have participated in so far.

Trump's comments come after he scored a big win on Florida on Tuesday night, knocking Marco Rubio out of the race. But he failed to clinch Ohio, potentially setting the GOP on the path for a brokered convention, with Ted Cruz and John Kasich still vying for the nomination.

The real estate mogul has been flirting for days with skipping the upcoming debate, which the Republican National Committee had set on Feb. 20. Trump had called last Thursday's debate hosted by CNN "a really nice way to finish off the debate season" and said he was not aware of other upcoming showdowns.

While it's not clear if Trump can reach the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the nomination, he has called on the GOP to unite behind him so that he can take on Hillary Clinton in the general election.

This wouldn't be the first time Trump has skipped a debate. He boycotted the Fox News showdown in Iowa in January, following a feud with Fox News host Megyn Kelly, and subsequently lost the state to Cruz. Trump later said that skipping the debate could have cost him the win.

Watching Cruz and Kasich debate will expose how boring they are, not saying they are not good conservatives, but boring.

Fox cannot win either way.

That's the Trump way. Every move attacks and defends at the same time.

Look. Trump is wrong here. We need 5 debates a second from now until 3023 AD.

No upside to him going to that debate.

How many advertisers are going to bail now.

BOL! Can you imagine if you/we were in charge of allocating ad money, trying to justify buying ad time for that loser debate to your CEO/board?

Good. Cruz and Kasich can unite and bash the nominee. Fox should cancel it.

We'll get to see Cruz say, "I've debated Donald Trump... Not Once... Not Twice... Not Three Times. But TWELVE TIMES!"

This guy ... it’s like he’s a black hole of excitement. He just sucks it all up and regurgitates sad inanities.

MEgyn Kelly, Chris Wallace and Bret Baier have already hosted and moderated enough debates brawls.

Fox News' Honcho Roger Ailes needs to wise up. His current team and the premise of their questions are extremely biased and meant to incite, which makes his team and their questions unprofessional, particularly when compared to Jake Tapper and his questions, for example.

There’s no way I’m sitting through a debate where John Kasich gets half the airtime. Plus Cruz!

I would prefer being water boarded.

Since I don’t have to watch or be water boarded, we will watch something else on TV.

We haven’t watched a single got you posing as a debate.

We have been boycotting Faux News since Iowa!

You are correct and some idiot heads @ Faux need to be removed for a very bad decision.

“If they go along with the debate, it will put a spotlight on the remaining two candidates. They will do OK, but it will be wonky and boring as hell. They will do noting but attack Trump.

Fox cannot win either way.

That’s funny. Someone did not do their homework.”

....and each one of them ring mastered by Mygyn, complete with 5 minute power point presentations, and 12 prosecutorial accusations, prior to the first question, which will be why does Trump suck so much, then give open mikes to the other candidates to reply.

Doesn’t matter if he shows up to the debate or not! If Donald Trump is on the “Who won the Debate?” poll, he will win!

It was only announced last Friday or Saturday that Fox News would host the debate on March 21st. It was just unknown which cable-network would host it.

How many times do we have to listen to ‘asked and answered’ questions and yes Trump does want to debate Cruz one on one but Chuckles the Clown will also be there.

A debate without Trump is not worth having. Sound bite debates are so overrated anyway. I chuckle every time the moderators ask for “specifics” in a 60 second response.

Example:

Moderator: “What would you do to bring back high paying manufacturing jobs, which have been disappearing for the past 25 years, to the United States? You have 2 minutes to answer. PLEASE be specific.”

If ANYTHING like this could be answered specifically in one or two minutes it wouldn’t be that big a problem.

This was the last scheduled debate, decided a long time ago. Trump is a coward. He will get destroyed by Hillary in a debate and she is the worst presidential candidate ever. Say hello to a liberal supreme court after president Biden appoints a liberal jurist.
