Never seen anything like that? Come on, now, you have not been looking. The press at every level gets roughed up and frog-marched away from the scene on a regular basis, from local reporting all the way up to major media covering stories that SHOULD be of wide interest. Most of the media people have fallen in line with the “rules of engagement”, and are by now a little too timid to actually go out and dig for a story on the well-connected and powerful, because they know what they would be in for. If not from the object of their search, it will come from the editorial staff of whatever news organization they believe themselves to be working for, when their investigative report gets summarily spiked, regardless of its authenticity and documentation. And there is a lot of other “gentler” persuasion, like being taken off to the side and getting a little “friendly” advice, which translates to either take the bribe, or maybe “sumpin BAD might happen, capish’?”
First Amendment rights are being regularly run over roughshod, and every day, as people get “habituated” to the “new normal”, the erosion is accelerating.
