Common Core is hated in OH. The only reason it's tolerated is that there's such easy access to public homeschooling as a safety valve. FWIW, it used to be Kucinich who fought for US workers and keeping manufacturing jobs. And his district wasn't just gerrymandered; it was shattered into tiny pieces that extend from Toledo to Akron to far east side of Cleveland.
I live in what used to be Kucinich territory. The only signs on lawns are for Trump.

The baton for Ohio’s opposition to most trade matters has passed from Kucinich to Sherrod Brown. Unfortunately, he also comes with a LOT of other political baggage.
That aside, one can be hopeful that the switch to Trump at least signals a break in Democrat strangleholds over such issues.

Common Core is a terrible thing, but the opposition of Common Core needs to include a substitute. The problem with Common Core isn’t the concept, but what the core is made up of. The solutions for education must be made on a local level in the face of state testing requirements that drive elementary education in the wrong direction.
