I agree : )
You might want to look up the “tu quoque” fallacy, when you get the chance.
Pointing out your neighbor’s leaky boat does nothing to fix your own leaky boat, FRiend. I’m not saying that Ted Cruz is perfect, or that he doesn’t have problems; I’m saying that there is a sizable group of people who think that Trump DOESN’T have those problems, or that he’s somehow “so much better”... which is, forgive me, nonsense.
(Rule #1: There is a God. Rule #2: It isn’t CRUZ.)
Trump has the theology of the Lord’s Supper down. Good enough for me to say he is without being a mind reader.
I don’t like Cruz going around as The Christian Candidate. It’s one thing to say that your faith informs your political life. It’s another to treat Jesus as a tool to help you win the election.
Now we have to define ‘real’ ;^)
Tu quoque "argument" follows the pattern:
An example would be
It is a fallacy because the moral character or past actions of the opponent are generally irrelevant to the logic of the argument.[3] It is often used as a red herring tactic and is a special case of the ad hominem fallacy, which is a category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of fact about the person presenting or supporting the claim or argument.[4]
Any particular reason you're saying this? Or are you just in the mood to insult Ted Cruz without cause? I don't remember anyone (least of all Ted Cruz) saying that Cruz was God... do you? If so, could you give me a quote/link?
Trump has many problems but one of them isn’t selling out the working class, middle class, and upper middle class.
Cruz has THIS problem.
No known cure for him.
Now, to the point at hand: when someone points out the (very strong) possibility that Trump's claims and promises won't pan out, and that the odds are very much against him fulfilling the dreams of his fans (e.g. building a wall and making Mexico pay for it, making Washingtonites work together with him, "getting things done" (whatever that means--pretty vague, yes?), and any other version of "making America great again"), it's not much of a defense to say, "Hey, Cruz hasn't done much that I find impressive, either!"
Does that clarify?
...aaaaand... this addresses your comment about “Cruz = God” HOW, exactly?
Don’t be obtuse. You made an unfounded and quite silly post the people for Trump don’t think he has any flaws. Utter nonsense!
Then I saw your tagline, and made a modest adjustment. No biggie. That is unless you are profoundly thin-skinned.
But he is an American, isn’t he? He is a natural born citizen because he had a mother that was an American, right? Just like Cruz, right?
LOL, like they did Obama?
NO, there are requirements of residency for a parent and a child which have not been met.
Cruz won more than 240 counties with multiple opponents.
When my friends ask me why I'm voting for Trump and not Cruz, I tell them the same thing. I like it that Cruz is conservative but I am a realist. His conservative ideology is too rigid for the general population. He will lose to Hillary.
Trump, on the other hand, is not as conservative but can draw an incredible amount of people to the polls. Let's face it, if your own party is abandoning you when you're the frontrunner, after the RNC insisted on a loyalty oath from Trump, people outside the party can see a winner when they see one and feel free to vote for him. He can sling mud back at Hillary as well as any New Yorker. I think Trump will beat her going away.
But I admit, I have no idea what is going to happen between now and November. None of us do.
You're just SO certain that Cruz will be the nominee and beat Hillary, so please explain, in DETAIL, which states Ted wins to beat Trump out of the nomination and HOW, exactly, he beats Hillary.
(*tsk*) Right back at you, FRiend. Your "modest" adjustment to my tagline was meant to be a snark at me, yes? My reply was a gentle way of pointing out the absurdity of what you wrote.
You made an unfounded and quite silly post the people for Trump dont think he has any flaws. Utter nonsense!
Interesting. So... where, exactly, did I say that? The only thing even close to that, actually, came from YOU... when you suggested that I (and perhaps other Cruz supporters) thought that *HE* was "God". Again... project, much?
With all due respect, your reading comprehension seems to be much of the difficulty between us...
Then I saw your tagline, and made a modest adjustment. No biggie.
Right. And I replied and pointed out the shortcomings of your comment. No biggie there, either.
That is unless you are profoundly thin-skinned.
:) Irony, thy name is now "stephenjohnbaker"...
Wow. Um... okay, then! Please stay away from the sharp objects until you get that anger management thing under control, eh? Talk about "over the top"...
You're just SO certain that Cruz will be the nominee and beat Hillary,
BACK. UP.
You're at least the third FReeper (who happens to be an apparent Trump supporter) who's attributed wildly exotic things to me, when I never came within a hundred miles of them. Where are you GETTING all this? When did I, even once, mention Hillary in this thread? When did I project Cruz's chances AT ALL?
For those few who're too rushed (or too careless, or too enraged, etc.) to read what I actually wrote, here's my thesis statement: those who claim that Trump is superior to Cruz (in the ways I mentioned earlier, at least) are saying so without any recognizable basis in fact and/or reality. See my previous posts for details about the point-by-point (so-called) "benefits" of Trump.
That's it.
Criticizing Trump does not translate into support for Ted Cruz, or (yech) Jeb Bush, or anyone else. It doesn't. Yes, I also support Ted Cruz... but I'm quite capable of bringing that up as a separate sentence, in a separate debate.
Is that too much to believe? Sheesh... what *do* they teach them at these schools...? (For the rage-prone who're tempted to flame that last comment: that's a literary reference to "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe"; read it. It'll do you good, and it'll supply context.)
so please explain, in DETAIL, which states Ted wins to beat Trump out of the nomination and HOW, exactly, he beats Hillary.
To whom are you talking? It can't be to me, since I didn't mention (or think) ANY of that. Good grief, man... can you keep me straight/distinct from the rest of the people you might possibly be debating on other threads?
