The people get the government they deserve. Right now, we deserve a Reality Show president. It grabs peoples' attention and makes them pay some attention to politics. It's the only thing that make some people pay attention to politics. And Trump is not a wonk. He works in bold colors, and we are a nation which largely lacks the ability to engage in critical thinking or to weigh nuances.

And we have a reality star running. The Chinese, or somebody, have a saying, “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” We can say, when the culture is debased, the reality star will appear. Can anyone, for or against Trump, argue that he is not a man of the times?

Exactly. The debates have not been about policy for the most part. The thing that comes through to the viewer is personal denigrating attacks cloaked as humor and Trump is so much better at that. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Cruz and Rubio is “lying Ted” and “little Mario”. The on line exchanges are beyond disgusting. This is a contest for the presidency.

This sort of political exchange is nothing new, it’s been around since surrogates for our founding fathers engaged in it. However, it’s no longer in the background, it’s ninety percent of the exchange between the principals. Rubio destroyed himself when he engaged in it front on. He probably won’t be able to get a job as a convenience store clerk anymore. Trump is the master and his misrepresentations are excused or defended by his supporters.
