“People who have committed several crimes before are, according to statistical probability, more likely to commit crimes again.”

Seems it is better if the computer predicts that and not a human ‘bean’.

Netflix is incredibly accurate. But you need to feed it data. You need to rate a lot of categories, and yes you still can ban whole categories, and you need to rate a lot of movie. Until you’ve rated at least 1000 movies they’re just guessing, but when they have data to work with they’re above 99% accurate.

Saw the same video. IIRC the backwindow of the driver’s side was shot out first. Seems the sniper or shooter missed Finicum and shot out the back window.

The show, Person of Interest, is much more realistic.

Before we weaken criminal law enforcement any more, we should see some examples where this has actually happened in the USA.

“That’s why Amazon uses them to figure out what you’re likely to buy, how Netflix knows what you might want to watch, the way meteorologists come up with accurate 10-day forecasts. “

No, I don’t think so.

In particular the forecast, for our neck of the woods they barely get the next day’s forecast right. The 10 day is just totally worthless. If our work performance was hovering around 10% we’d be fired.

Amazon? So I surf Amazon, and buy nothing. Next time I’m on they suggest all sorts of crap I never bought, and do not want to buy.

I can see the leftists fantasy, just predict who their enemies are and have them euthanized. I mean gee whiz, when it comes to destruction, they are forward thinkers. They have abortion in the bag, working on seniors, time to start educating the public on killing off who might be a criminal.

Do not think the article was trying to weaken law enforcement if mistaken, please, show me. Just what is in the works.

In reading about Finicum being shot there are some inconsistencies. Not sure if the computer program had any effect on his shooting but the powers that be sure wanted to stop his ‘education’ program to the public.

Quote:
“Joseph Rice, the Josephine County, Oregon, coordinator for the volunteer Oathkeepers.com organization and a leader with the Pacific Patriot Network, told WND many questions remain unanswered.

“How are ‘We the People’ to trust them the next time we interact with them?” he told WND.

“You’ve got agents willfully covering up the facts. That seems to claw at the integrity on the federal side of the investigation,” he said, calling for an independent review.

He explained that during the standoff he had spoken with both sides about how to resolve the disagreement and prevent a Waco or Ruby Ridge, two federal law-enforcement disasters that resulted in multiple deaths.

Rice pointed out that at least one of the individuals in the vehicle at the time of the shooting never was interviewed by investigators, who on Tuesday released details of their investigation.

He said the explanations fall short. Authorities, Rice said, claimed Finicum was shot three times in the back, yet he fell backward into the snow.

And he confirmed the family’s autopsy concluded Finicum was shot nine times.”

The gov reported he was shot three time in the back.

Watching the video, after he was shot no effort to give him any aid was provided!!!

Take care.........pilgrim

you could choose to never show this or that. So, when I chose never show this or that, what pops up for movie choices? The stuff I absolutely don’t want to watch!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess "Gay and Lesbian Films" was one of your "never show" categories. I'll bet there's an algorithm there that maximizes that category, whatever one's preferences!

If targeted advertising misfires, nobody’s liberty is at stake.

Said by someone who's never been a teenage girl trying to figure out, in front of her father, why Similac is suddenly sending her gift packages.

Don’t know about the experiences of others, but those up-front claims about Amazon, Netflix and Weather forecasting don’t persuade. Amazon is always recommending stuff I don’t want, need, or buy. Netflix doesn’t know me. And the weather predicting often enough is wrong by afternoon.

Every time someone claims the advertising companies know so much about us, I point out that I have twice been on some company's "pregnant mother" list, even though I have never been pregnant.

LOL!!!

Thanks! Rather read your reply in lieu of the accusation of me smoking crack. He must know something about it, I sure don’t.

Do know about the situation you described but sure can imagine it!

It calculates the statistical probability of something, based on your past purchases,

Actually the algorithm is much more complicated than that. History is only one of many factors used to predict future behavior. But in the end, it's still just a crap shoot.

I understand that! :)

Just post’em don’t write’em and do not always agree.

Oh, sure, I understand your point perfectly. I was arguing with the use of metrics to that degree. What’s evident here is that we’re seeing profiling taken to a high-tech level. I wouldn’t argue with profiling any more than I’d get on a plane with a dozen angry, nervous, easily profiled young adult men of a certain ethnicism. But predicting? Nah. That’s overstated as badly as predicting the state of Ohio being underwater in 100 years.

So that was why the salesman was trying to sell me waterfront property in Ohio?

Was wondering? :)

From the justice system's point of view, it's kind of the logical follow-on to Three Strikes laws. If you think a relatively minor third strike deserves a life sentence because the criminal might do something worse in the future, then it's a short step to thinking that a life sentence is justified for one felony, or a pattern of behavior, or even writing the "wrong" opinions about gun ownership on the Internet.

And if there is the slightest chance someone might shoot a politician or any of the other Anointed, then establishing pre-crime penalties becomes essential to the self-perpetuation of tyranny.

This type of algorithm is biased by the assumptions of the programmers.
You don’t see EU elites expecting or even doing anything about the spike in rapes, assaults and drug dealing due to the Muslim invasion. But it was freaking obvious that when you let a million men from a true rape culture show up, you’ll see more rape and assaults on Christians, Yazidis, etc.

So much easier to investigate a “crime” that only happens in cyberspace in the future than an actual crime that happened in the past.

Click, click, there I’m done. Time to go fishing.
