The Democrats have pulled out all the stops to pressure Senate Republicans to hold a vote on President Obama's eventual replacement for Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. In particular, they are targeting Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) with vile op-eds in partisan Iowa newspapers and threatening him with a challenge in his re-election bid.
Grassley's challenger, former Lt. Governor Patty Judge, said she will focus on Grassley's refusal to cave into the Democrats' wishes hold hearings on Obama's nominee as part of her campaign.
Like I said: ALL THE STOPS.
Soon-to-be-retired Minority Leader and Chief Obstructor Harry Reid (D-NV) has taken the Democrats' righteous indignation/dog and pony show theatrics to the Senate floor.
The Hill reports , "Reid has spent the last week delivering daily speeches against Grassley, accusing him of abandoning the Constitution and blindly adhering to McConnell's wishes."
Oh, the humanity!
"Now as each day passes, the senior senator from Iowa is trying desperately to justify his blind loyalty to the Republican leader and to Donald Trump," Reid said. "Senator Grassley is grasping for any rationale — anything that will excuse him for not doing his job."
(Donald Trump?!?)
To which Grassley astutely observed: "The tantrums from the other side continue. But I guess it shouldn't surprise anybody, as everyone knows around here nothing makes the minority leader more mad than when his side is forced to play by its own rules."
Indeed.
Vice President Biden had no problem waiting until after an election to replace a Supreme Court justice. Neither did Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Now that the balance of power has shifted, the Democrats are unhappy their own playbook is being used against them.
Is there any doubt the Democrats would be doing the same thing if the president in question was a Republican? Of course not.

Has there been a nominee announced yet? Perhaps we should keep our powder dry until we have a nominee?
Then, we can begin the games with a face to justify no hearing or vote.

Just wait for the REAL fireworks when Ruth Buzzi retires or dies. I would bet on her retiring after this session is over in June, so that Obama could name her replacement. But I don’t think that the Republicans would DARE to do anything...it’d only fuel the hatred for the GOPe.

It’s refreshing that a Republican is actually returning fire on the Senate floor when that little weasel Reid has spent the last week delivering daily speeches against Grassley, it’s way past time for Repubs to start speaking out.
Biden Rule? Absurd. The rules are always different for fringe lunatic liberal Democrats. This is to be expected.
I like it too. But unless we can find another gear for the opposition machine, I’d sure hate to poison the well prior. We need to make sure we have enough ammo for the fight.
If I ever find out the name of the person who punched Harry Reid in the face I fully intend to punish that person with a cold beer and the best steak I can grill!

Hypocrisy is the coin of the realm for Democrats. They are immune to its venom, and use it to their own advantage. Having a base with the memory of a Commodore 64 and and an IQ the average of a spring day temp in Anchorage helps a lot......................
I think Reid has managed to p*** off Grassley at a personal level, and he is stiffening his spine due to that.
You may well be right, Reid has a way of doing that.
The pubbies should repeat the words of the RATs as they obstructed the Reagan and Bush nominees. over and over until we all have them memorized. What a great “who said that?” quiz.
Care to speculate/ share what Reid did to miff Grassley so badly, he (Grassley) grew a spine? At least, temporarily?
