Jury: Polygamous towns discriminated against nonbelievers
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | March 7, 2016 | Jacques Billeaud

Two polygamous towns on the Utah-Arizona border violated the constitutional rights of nonbelievers by denying them basic services such as police protection, building permits and water hookups, a jury said Monday.

The civil rights trial marks one of boldest efforts by the government to confront what critics have long said was a corrupt regime in Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah. The seven-week trial provided a rare glimpse into the communities that for years have been shrouded in secrecy and are distrustful of government and outsiders.

Not so distrustful of the government not to avail themselves of welfare programs for their extended families.

Hey, you know what?

They don't want me to go there, and I don't want to go there. I think we can come to an agreement.

It’s a well established “custom” in Utah, called “bleeding the beast”

I believe that Hilsdale is the town that hosts the NSA Data Center, where they spy on all our calls, email and texts.

And posts.

Utah is big. My question is why any non-believers would want to live in a town like that?

But nobody is supposed to pick up on that aspect of their “sincerely held beliefs”.

That would be judgmental..or something.

An LDS "prophet"...Lorenzo Snow...developed a couplet that became LDS theology "As man now is, God once was. As God now is, man may become."

Iow...God was once a man who got the God job...and now temple Mormons can become fellow gods.

So freepers coined a similar phrase as it pertains to Mormon theology about polygamy:

"As the fLDS are, the LDS once were. As the fLDS are, the LDS will become." Iow...fundie Mormons are "classic" mainstream Mormons...and mainstream Mormons believe they can become eternal polygamists.

There is a LOT of “under the radar” polygamy in northern Utah and southern Idaho too. You have 4 or 5 wives and lots of kids even though you can only be legally married to one woman? No problem. The other “wives” are now eligible for all kinds of government welfare. I know of one guy with 5 wives who quit his job to manage the “family business” - welfare money.

It is not polygamy but Mormonism at the root of the problem. Flamers, take note, you either don’t know what you are talking about or you are a mormon.

the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a radical offshoot of mainstream Mormonism

************************************************************

That’s just wrong. The opposite is true. “Mainstream Mormonism” is the offshoot of F.L.D.S.

“My question is why any non-believers would want to live in a town like that?”

Uh, because they were born into the sect, bowed out, but wanted to remain in the area of their birth?

Many of the polygamists have close relatives in families here in southern Utah. Ownership of land by families crosses into their relatives here.

I know at least ten people here in Orderville that are still participating in family reunions etc. even though they are not polygamists. At least we think so.
