Rumors Swirl: 'The Chance of Ben Carson Jumping Onboard with Trump Is Very Real'
PJ Media ^ | 03/03/2016 | BY TYLER O'NEIL

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson looks to be dropping out of the presidential race, despite multiple declarations to the contrary on Super Tuesday. He will skip out on Thursday night's debate, and he has openly declared that he does "not see a political path forward." Carson will speak on Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where he is expected to drop out of the race. If so, whom will he endorse?

Sources close to the good doctor have told Independent Journal Review's Benny Johnson that Donald Trump is most likely to receive Carson's endorsement. "Trump was contacting Dr. Carson regularly during the campaign and remains in contact," a former Carson staffer told Independent Journal Review on condition of anonymity. ”I would not be surprised if the first call Ben got today was from Trump." The staffer added, "The chance of Ben jumping onboard with Trump is very real."

Another former Carson staffer said, "Carson would be the crown jewel of an endorsement for Trump." The retired neurosurgeon would bring a degree of moral support to the real estate tycoon, who has taken hits from evangelical leaders for being indecent and untrustworthy, and Marco Rubio has repeatedly denounced him as a "con artist." Carson, by contrast, is well regarded as a moral man, primarily by evangelicals.

Carson's former Iowa campaign chair Rob Taylor said Trump would "rarely say anything ill of Carson." If he were Trump, Taylor said "Carson would be my #1 pick for VP. He has the balance and reasonability that Trump needs."

It is very unlikely for Carson to back Cruz, as the good doctor and his campaign suspects that Cruz stole votes from him in the Iowa caucus. Cruz and his surrogates around the state propagated a lie that Carson was dropping out, and told Iowa voters to vote Cruz instead.

"The Cruz campaign is dishonest," declared one former Carson staffer in Iowa. "The feeling was felt by everyone on the campaign." Another former staffer said Carson considers Cruz "untrustworthy," and added, "The last campaign Dr. Carson would support now is the Cruz campaign."

While the good doctor distrusts Cruz, he has a friendly relationship with Marco Rubio, the former staffers told Independent Journal Review. The Florida senator has been in contact with Carson over the phone, according to Taylor. The former Iowa campaign chair said he does not know whom Carson will choose, but he does know the Carson's next move.

The very first thing the man does in a decision moment is ask God for guidance and sometimes that is the very best thing...Dr. Carson will do whatever the Good Lord tells him to do.

How different from the real estate tycoon Carson might just endorse on Friday.

“Carson would be the crown jewel of an endorsement for Trump.”

Oh, good lord.

Afterall, it was Trump that hung with him at the debate entrance when Carson didn’t hear his name called. The rest practically stepped on his neck trying to get on stage.

Lets’ see...

Christie - AG

Carson - Surgeon Genral

So far so good.

For VP, really need to nail down a true constitutionalist who wants to cut the feds down to its constitutional size - about 80%.

Trump knows how to mend fences when the time comes.

I was wavering for a little while with Cruz-regret, but I am wholeheartedly back on board.

Trump is the only Herman Cain mincemeat of Cruz long ago had not Trump been there to draw their fire.

It would mean something to me if Carson endorsed Trump. Even though I don’t think Carson has the right temperament to be President at this point in time, I respect his contributions to the conversation even since the Prayer Breakfast speech with Obama.

I would be shocked if Carson threw his support behind trump. Donnie is pretty much the exact opposite of Carson in every way and is responsible for the mud wrestling matches the debates have become.

I would bet that he will refuse to support anyone until the tone becomes more civil and the discussion becomes issue focused.

I think he will also ask people who are dissatisfied with the level of discourse to vote for him as a way of protesting.

I would be disappointed in Carson, the man, if he actively supported trump.

I agree on the first points but actually any good business person could downsize the government. The biggest problem is the political hacks who get appointed and thus can be fired at will by a new President know how the system works, so they apply for and get civil service jobs where it’s nearly impossible to fire them.

So the first step really needs to be legislation, executive orders, or whatever it takes to get reform the federal employment system so whoever is VP can go in and start chopping. Since EPA, Education, Energy etc are all within the Executive branch, it might not be that difficult.

Trump would "rarely say anything ill of Carson."

Other than comparing him to a pathological child molester.

Since Carson’s campaign was nothing but a fundraising scam, I fully expect his endorsement to be available to the highest bidder

RE: Since Carson’s campaign was nothing but a fundraising scam,

How is it a scam? Did he misuse the funds and donations he raised?

RE: Carson - Surgeon Genral

That position is a waste of talent. Secretary of Health and Human Services is more what I am thinking of.... for ANY Republican President/

Well, for sure he’s not going to endorse Cruz, so I would not be surprised at all if he endorses Trump. Carson is much like much Chris Christy in sober temperament, and both are unlike The Donald, so that should not stop him either.

Ben is gentle and intelligent.

He is also more knowledgeable about issues than most people give him credit for.

He would make a fine VP for a President Trump. And he would soften the image of the grizzly which would calm a lot of the elderly and timid.

Why would Trump nominate someone like that? Trump hardly mentions the Constitution.

He admitted that he's not trying to win the Presidency, but by keeping his campaign up and running instead of suspending it, he can still travel around the country on the campaign dime, instead of being limited to retiring campaign debt.

It is a scam, and he's drawing votes from Cruz most likely, which makes it impossible to beat FOB Trump.

Too high a price to pay for a flash-in-the-pan moment.
Besides, it would result in the Uncle Tomification of Carson.

Well, I was talking about Trump’s VP who could likely follow Trump as President who would do the cutting - among others, nuking the unconstitutional and miserable $1 trillion Dept of HHS.

We’re talking about sending a few hundred thousand officials, bureaucratic heads, and government workers home packing. Yes, it would be difficult and anathema to the political class but it would be heaven on earth to America, her economy, and the America People.

Probably helpful would be the idea of getting rid of career politicians who in my estimation are per se corrupt and would of course resist all efforts to get the feds back into its constitutional cage. Maybe a term-limit amendment would help.
