IMO, all of the brokered convention analysis completely misses the mark.
Trump is a skilled business man, he doesn’t venture into unknown situations where he loses control (such as a brokered convention). If Trump doesn’t have his 8 states locked down soon enough, look for him to make a deal with Cruz (and Rubio if he still around and pulling in meaningful numbers) to have his opponents drop out in time for Trump to head into the convention assured of a first ballot win.
It wouldn’t even be a hard sell. I’m a Cruz supporter, but if Ted stands up and says that the only path to defeat the Washington cartel is to throw in behind Trump... There isn’t really much of an alternative.
This creates a kingmaker situation where 2nd place might actually matter if it is a strong second place. Ironically the flip side of the same coin is that by encouraging the also-rans to stick around, they also prevent a clear alternative to Trump.
A strange election.
Interesting. As a Crus supporter do you think he would ever agree that stopping the Ruling Class GOPe Washington DC cartel is an important enough goal that he would support Trump if that’s the only or best way to do so?
I looked for that last night in his speech, after noticing Trump had said some complimentary things about Cruz, but I saw nothing that would indicate he would do so.
Cruz’s effort is not to DEFEAT the Washington Cartel. He IS the Washington Cartel. He’s a stealth candidate for the Washington Political Class, the establishment, the globalists. So he’ll never drop out in favor of Trump.
