Joe Lieberman, the former Connecticut senator and vice-presidential candidate, wrote in a Washington Post op-ed this week that the world was suffering due to a lack of American leadership. Lieberman, who identified as a Democrat for most of his political career, did not call President Obama out by name. But in his critique of the world stage, he certainly left little doubt as to what he thinks about the current administration.
The simple fact is that there is more instability in the world today than at any time since the end of World War II, Lieberman wrote. The threats come from emboldened expansionist powers such as Iran, Russia and China, and also terrorist aggressors such as the Islamic State and al-Qaeda. In short, the enemies of freedom are on the march.
Lieberman said that this era of instability was only worsened by American inaction. At the same time, the United States which assumed global leadership after World War II to protect our domestic security, prosperity and freedom has chosen this moment to become more passive in the world.
The former senator has been a harsh critic of Obamas Iranian nuclear deal, but seldom has he slammed this presidents foreign policy with this much enthusiasm. In his piece, he takes issue with the presidents failure to stand up to Vladimir Putin, Iran, and Syrias Assad.
In too many places in recent years, he wrote, the United States has treated its adversaries as essential partners to be courted, while dismissing or denigrating its historic allies and partners as inconveniences or obstacles to peace.
Lieberman concluded by calling on voters to elect a president who would have a firmer understanding of Americas proper place in the world.
We can probably guess that hes not feeling the Bern, and his disdain for Obamas policies would seemingly disqualify Hillary Clinton as well. Would Lieberman support a Republican? Its possible; he endorsed John McCain in 2008 over Obama.
Liebermans personal loyalties notwithstanding, its hard to find fault with his opinion on Americas current standing in the world. President Obama has gleefully allowed the Middle East to burn under his watch, and he has failed to take any meaningful stance against Putin. Hes too involved to be deemed an isolationist and hes too timid to be called an interventionist. Hes just there. And thats dangerous.
But to a growing number of liberals, Obamas thinking on foreign policy is the right one. The left wants America to become subservient to the rest of the world, except as it pertains to fluff like climate change. What they dont seem to realize is that the rest of the world depends on a strong, involved U.S. That doesnt mean we have to invade every country run by a dictator, but we do need a president who recognizes Americas role as a potent, irreplaceable military force.

GOP leaders have decided to block Donald Trumps nomination at all costs, even if it means losing the presidency to Hillary Clinton? Why? Trump threatens all the establishment GOP leaders cozy deals. Hes a threat to the lobbying class! Hes a threat to the consultant class! Hes a threat to the globalists! Here is best one - GOP establishment would rather suffer through four years of Hillary than to have an outsider be president like Trump, who is beholden to no one!
I heard him on Hannity and refused to say who he supports.
I only have one thing to say to Joe Lieberman: Shut up and sit down.
HE ought’a know
HE ought’a know
I have been saying for eons will he be the most politically tormented individuals and will he ever know it. Look at this history.
* Lieberman, R.Kerry, and D.P.Moynihan went to the Senate floor to condemn Clinton on the Lewnisky mess and fell short of asking him to resign.
* We find out later, that display was a set up and dog and pony show.
* In the 33 days from Hell ( Bush v Gore 2000 ) he could have asked Al to "Don't do this for the sake of the Country", like Nixon did in 60' when JFK stole the election from him. He didn't.
* I need to research it, but I hear his wife was a lobbyist for Pfizer at the time of the Kelo Decision. Why the heck is your wife doing that when you are a sitting Senator? Their have been discussions that it went forward in deference to him, are you freaking kidding me?
Very hawkish Liberal Interventionists such as Lieberman are sometimes called Left Wing NeoCons because NeoCon Republicans and Liberal Interventionist Democrats are natural allies on foreign policy.
Trump and Cruz are Realists while Rubio is a NeoCon. This is why many NeoCon Republicans will support Hillary over Trump or Cruz.
On domestic policy Lieberman formed and was the first president of the DLC in the 1980s, which was established on the premise that if the dem party keeps nominating populists/leftists like Mondale to run against moderates such as Reagan, the dems will never be able win the presidency. Bill Clinton was the second president of the DLC, which he would use as a springboard to win the dem nomination for president and Hillary is a DLC democrat. OTOH, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are Mondale democrats.
DLC democrats(like Hillary) are also Corporatist Democrats, which is why Wall Street paid Hillary large sums to make speeches and Mondale democrat Bernie Sanders is agitating for Hillary to release the transcripts of her Wall Street speeches.
In the democrat campaign, Hillary is lying to the leftwing Populists. In the republican campaign, Trump and Cruz are lying to the rightwing populists.
One of the big questions that has arisen is who will Sheldon Adelson give large sums of campaign money to: Hillary, Trump, or neither.

Lieberman doing his ground hog act? Who, pray tell, is responsible for this leader-less rudder-less state of affairs? Lachrymose Joe was in the senate for how long and what did he accomplish?
He makes some good points.
But, if The Won could legally run for a third term, ol’ Joe would be out there campaigning for him.
Joe the ex-communicated Jew?-)
Joe is such an ignorant, homely liberal. His ACU voting record is very close to 0!
If rabbis could excommunicate, Joey would be at the top of the list.
Not nearly as well as a pencil sharpener.
This saggy faced basset hound was another worthless Democrat.
