Wait, so first we give them 3 billion a year and then they turn around and purchase jets with the money we just gave them?

3 billion a year?

Yet we can't afford a space program or new warships for our navy.

The US supplies many of Israel’s mortal enemies far more than $3 billion worth of war implements. The program is really a subsidy for US defense manufacturers. Possibly a point has been reached where Israel cannot afford the risk of relying on US arms.

This is like when the government squeezes the rental car companies to stock their fleets with cars that consumers won’t buy like the Caprice “Classic”, etc.
