Donald Trump has faced his share of criticism about his comments on immigrants, Muslims, and women while on the campaign trail. Despite the controversies, his political star is shining brighter than ever. The New York Times took a closer look at the people who are backing him in the race to the White House to see just where they stand on the issues.
Specifically, the paper looked at the racial beliefs of the Republican front-runner's supporters. The deep dive into the numbers turned up one startling finding: nearly 20 percent of Trump's supporters did not approve of freeing slaves in the Confederacy.
A YouGov/Economist poll asked respondents if they approved or disapproved of "the executive order that freed all slaves in the states that were in rebellion against the federal government," better known as the Emancipation Proclamation.

Really pissed me off. I feel sorry for that poor gal that got my phone call. I tried to not be too mean to her, but she got an earful for sure.

20%...I bet 50% of the country has no idea what EMANCIPATION Proclamation was, and the FACT that Lincoln didn’t do it to free the slaves, he did it to take assets of the South to use against them as an act of war.

I’ve heard people ( NOT LIBERALS ) argue that the Emancipation Proclamation was UNCONSTITUTIONAL. It should have gone through Congress and was the ultimate Obama-like executive order and power-grab.
The way Hillary has been hitting whites with the race card lately, it sounds like the dems are going to include the enslavement of whites in their platform. But, then again, everyone knows that hating white people is AOK.
Or, looking at the other side of it:

So the pollster DIDN'T call it the Emancipation Proclamation?
It's more amazing that 80% of Trump voters correctly identified (ie. could not be tricked) the Emancipation Proclamation by its description considering that fully half of all Americans can't even correctly identify the century that the Civil War occurred in!
New York Times - I do not read your trash and I do not believe a word you say. You once were a news source, today you only spew political propaganda.
Typical Demorat propaganda kicking into gear.
According to their swill, no matter who the GOP is, they will:
1. Hate Woman.
2. Be in favor of killing off the elderly.
3. Want the blacks back in chains.
4. Want to control a woman’s reproductive organs.
5. Be in favor of nuking any nation that NeoCons want to.
6. Want to send penniless 3-year old orphans out of the USA.
7. Only allow white Christian males to vote.
8. Deny the Religion of Peace.
9. Destroy the earth for the sake of oil.
10. Etc., etc.
Like clock-work, every Presidential election this is their mantra.
And they have to use such ridiculous tactics because they themselves have created a mass of illiterate, totally dependent voters whom they fear mong into voting for them.

One, the thing that attracts me to Trump the most is that the New York Times hates him,.
Two, at this point in the ‘news media’, I expect they are lying outright. I simply do not believe this fictional poll. Period.

The NYT should know. They reported in depth on the massive race riots/draft riots that the Emancipation Executive Order cause in New York in 1863. Three regiments of infantry, fresh from the Gettysburg fight had to quell the rioting.
As an aside, this 'news story' originates from a poll from Yougov, which uses online polling exclusively, and started as a British polling company that later moved into other areas of the world. You could find something damning about any demographic if this was your goal. If you ask Hillary supporters whether they felt that men should be forced to sit down to pee, you'd probably find a significant percentage that would answer yes. Doesn't mean anything other than human beings tend not to be very thoughtful a lot of the time.
