If Cruz Wants to Win, Thursday Night He'll Have to Clock Trump With Everything He's Got -- And More
The Daily Wire ^ | February 23, 2016 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 02/24/2016 11:06:42 AM PST by St_Thomas_Aquinas

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has one option if he wants to win the Republican nomination. Tomorrow night, during a debate with Donald Trump, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ohio Governor John Kasich, and Dr. Ben Carson, Cruz must clock Trump as hard as he can with his best rhetorical punch. He can't be lawyerly. He can't be civil. He has to get in the mud with Trump and pulverize him. There are three reasons for that.

Rubio Will Never Drop Out... Rubio's going nowhere...

Cruz Must Win More Than Texas On March 1, Or he's toast. Again, the fact that Rubio won't drop out under any circumstances means that Cruz can't hope to win a bunch of second places in the SEC primary, then go forward and pick up Rubio's supporters. Rubio will still be in after the SEC primary. And as we saw in Iowa, even a Cruz victory turns into a Rubio victory in the media...

So, all of this means that Cruz will actually have to beat Trump outright with Rubio still in the race, not wait for the never-gonna-happen Rubio flameout. He can do it, but only by recognizing that Trump is the biggest set of balls in the race, and the only way to defeat Trump is by kicking him directly in the groin on national television. That means Cruz should unleash everything up to and including the kitchen sink. He's going to have to out-masculine Trump.

He should face down Trump and say to him, "Donald, for months, everybody has been tiptoeing around you out of courtesy. Enough. We all know you're a spoiled brat who's never had anybody say no to him. You're a pathetic, bloated old man who stood on daddy's money stack to make billions, and then can't shut up about how he's a self-made man. You're a ridiculous dolt who lies about his politics, brags about having sex with married women, and shafts little old ladies for cash. And every time you are attacked, your face turns as red as the Kool-Aid man -just like it's doing now. Then you cite polls, as though polls make you not all those things. They don't. You're just as much of a ridiculous clown as you ever were."

If Trump tries to interrupt him, Cruz will have to tell him to shut the hell up, and then not back down.

It will be brutal. But if Cruz wants to win, he's going to have no other choice. Trump won't be defeated so long as both Cruz and Rubio are in the race, and Rubio's going nowhere. Somebody's going to have to knock King Trump off the top of the hill.

Time for lawyer Ted to step up, but America hates lawyers

If Cruz says this no one will talk about any other part of the debate.

The media will be unable to ignore it.

And Cruz' support will skyrocket.

But now Rush has let the cat out of the bag and Trump has time to come up with a response...

He didn’t say that Cruz left he said that some candidates had left, which they did. He did not name anyone specifically.

Check your facts.

...and Trump would have a hard time keeping from taking a swing at him. You know, just like in the old days.

And that's a fantastic tack if you are equipped. Cruz ain't. We've seen Cruz's tough guy schtick in the last debate and Trump let the air out of his wind bag diatribe with a single zinger.

CRUZ

TRUMP

Trump needs to focus on immigration...and smash Cruz for his American job-killing proposal for a 500% increase in H1-B visas, in addition to his proposal for an increase to the already insane legal immigration rate of 1 million per year. Trump needs to tell the audience how Cruz helped craft W’s amnesty bill. And how in 2011 Cruz backed birthright citizenship for anchor babies...and now doesn’t.

“Is it really possible, or wise, for the nation to select a president who has never held any kind of high office or demonstrated in that office his real perspectives?”

That’s a great idea!

Ask people if it’s “wise” to not just elect another career politician, because how can we trust a person not in the club to be good at this job!

I could have SWORN Cruz was trying to run as an outsider.

This is what “debate coaches” amount to in Politics. If he says that then you says this. It’s the George Constanza style. It’s not off the cuff and it will fall flat because it will be rehearsed just like Rubio’s line against Obama

I don't see Rubio or Cruz making in roads on Trump support. He is solid at 33%. The only thing these guys can do is increase turnout.

But no one is talking about what Trump needs to do. He is on a narrow path to win the nomination with a plurality. However, this strategy relys on winner take all state which is only 16% of delegates. This means a victory in winner take all Florida for Rubio or Kasich in winner take all Ohio is a disaster for Trump. Then there is Texas that is a Hybrid that Cruz can take more delegates even in a loss.

So my point, what is Trump going to do to get Cruz voters to him. Insults won't work as supporter become more entrenched and consider Rubio as a fall back.

Shapiro is even more unlikeable than Cruz. These are both just bad messengers of conservatism. They are not persuasive and both stiff curmudgeons.

Used to love Shapiro, but he has become a clown himself. All this....for Reverend Ted? Seriously?

Even as a Cruz supporter it looks like he is done. When he can't win one county in SC and not even get Hispanics or evangelicals then it is basically over

National polls showing him beating Trump, head-to-head, by 8 points.

This is why Trump and Rubio have focused their campaign of lies against Cruz.

Cruz vs Rubio and the fight becomes one about principles vs pragmatism.

Battle of the ineligibles

Takes real principles to ignore the Constitution

Why did Trump lie in Nevada and say that Cruz had left Nevada/

Didn't you listen to it? Trump said "they all left Nevada", more of a rhetorical emphasis that Trump was there. He never said Cruz left Nevada. He never said the others left and followed it with that meant they dropped out of the race and to vote for him. (like Cruz's campaign did with Carson in Iowa)

What you've done is a distortion. You replaced "all" with "Cruz". There's a big difference because, in fact, Trump did not single out Cruz in his statement. After all the lies, dirty campaign tricks, and distortions, Cruzers no longer have the luxury of adding their own interpretation to statements.

[Let’s see it happen anyway. Banana Don needs to be vetted on stage.]

But when Cruz gets vetted about his citizenship and shady bank loans, Cruzers cry “FOUL”!!!

Just like other politicians (If he says that, then YOU say...; then if he says X then YOU say Y). This type of robotic programming IS what politicians do already (see Rubio’s line against Obama) and it will come off just as fake as everything else politicians say. Not to mention, this isn’t who Cruz is and if he becomes that just because he needs to increase his poll numbers then he is truly the liar that his opponents claim him to be
