Trump lands his first congressional endorsements

Donald Trump finally has official supporters in Congress.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) told POLITICO on Wednesday that he will support Trump for the Republican nomination, making him one of the first members of Congress to express public support for the Manhattan businessman who is the prohibitive front-runner after his victory in Tuesday's Nevada caucuses.

Also on Wednesday, Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) told The Buffalo News that he is backing Trump, saying he has the "guts and fortitude" to get jobs back from China and to take on foreign threats such as the Islamic State and North Korea.

In an interview on Wednesday, Hunter told POLITICO that Trump has the strength needed for the job. "We don't need a policy wonk as president. We need a leader as president," Hunter said, adding that he has told his colleagues much of the same thing. "I'm in, and I've been in," he said in a telephone interview.

Noting that he and Trump see eye-to-eye on a number of issues, including border security, manufacturing and national security, Hunter said he also likes Trump for another reason. "I don't think Trump wants my endorsement," Hunter said, while also remarking that he has not heard from the candidate himself. "And that's one reason why I like him," he added. Trump said earlier Wednesday that "endorsements mean very little."

Hunter sponsored legislation last year that became known by its opponents as the Donald Trump Act, which would have forced local law enforcement in sanctuary cities to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement if they had an undocumented immigrant in custody.

"I've liked Trump since the beginning," Hunter said, and he hinted that other members of Congress might secretly support Trump as well.

I am no Trump supporter.

That said. I dont think congressional endorsements help his brand. He is playing the outsider. He needs to stay that way if his message is going to continue to sell.

Trump still isn’t taking globalist PAC dollars, and he can’t help it if people in Congress want to keep their jobs next election, and see the writing on the wall.

I'm no Trump supporter either. The Hunter pick up is solid; he's a good man in a tough state. He might be angling for a Cabinet spot, doesn't bother me.

This is tantamount to the start of a ‘slow surrender’ from Establishment outposts.

These people are not part of the original TRUMP circle. They just see who’s now... ‘at the gates of Damascus’ and don’t want to be on the ‘wrong side’ when the gates come crashing down.

Very telling comment. He welcomes support and asks for it in general but he does not go to the political elite to beg for their endorsements. They will come as he earns it or they see if beneficial to them to be supportive.

He does not go to those he is trying to lift up and ask for their money. If they want to contribute fine but he will use his own money and media savvy to carry the message. People see him committed to what he is doing rather than advancing his political career and income by getting people to contribute money to them.

I have supported other candidates in the race early through donations and once I did it was non stop requests for more money. I have it happen in the past but never to the degree it has occurred this year.

NONSENSE! Duncan Hunter is one of the few Republicans who is on the side of the people. He’s young, and he has served his country in Iraq. It’s time to winnow the heard in the Congress. The “I won’t vote for Trump crowd” needs to be exposed and voted off the island this election.

what is your definition of crony capitalist?

because Trump doesn’t meet the book definition
he has not spent his life consorting with an elite group of cronies conspiring to enrich themselves at the expense of all others, nor did he make his personal fortune because of some other billionaires

Clintons? Meet the definition of crony capitalists.
Kennedys? ditto.
Soros? Big time.
Obama? surprise. His entire crony capitalist administration has been about using govt office to enriching the interest of those who support his agenda
It seems that the socialist liberal left wing and their globalist NWO is now the world’s biggest crony capitalists!
and vice versa.

and that is why Trump points out that he is funding his own campaign and is not owned by big money donors and PACs (aka crony capitalists)
