S.F. board unanimously backs condom access in middle school

Concerned parents squared off against health and education officials Tuesday night as the San Francisco school board voted unanimously to allow access to condoms in city middle schools.

The new policy will allow staff to individually give students condoms "in conjunction with a session with a school nurse or social worker to identify risk factors and provide referrals or resources as necessary."

Condoms are already available in district high schools.

The new policy, initiated by Superintendent Richard Carranza, specifies that parents will not be allowed to opt out of the program. District officials say state law allows minors to access pregnancy prevention without parent permission or knowledge.

Why do they want to mainstream and facilitate abuse?
