The Muslim ban is what puts him there among evangelicals.

“Most of the people who don’t support him really have no interest in supporting him,”

I feel like that should go on “The List”. The list of bold assertions about Trump that later turned out to be the opposite of reality.

The rest of the world thinks Trump’s rise is crazy.

They said that about Obama, too eight years ago.

Populism can and does win elections. Try to place an analytical, serious, conservative candidate, and it’s a battle on different battlefields. Try to compete with the populism of the dominant candidate and you will come off looking like a goof. Continue to fight the populist candidate head on and you are a punching bag until election day - unless people start to feel sorry for you.

Especially when you waste valuable media exposure on totally wonky issues like gluten free MREs. That’s a fun subject for a thread on FR where we can all mock Michelle Obama, but when you’re at a campaign stop, it’s so far off the mark of things that voters care about right now, it seems completely tone-deaf in a, I hate to say this, Jeb Bush kind of way.

Why Donald Trump could win the US Republican presidential nomination

Because he is by far the best candidate, and perhaps our only chance to secure the boarders and deport illegals.

Same here at the barber shop, auto parts store and feed store. I know these people and they are ticked off big time. Western Washington, not Seattle.

So long as the remaining votes are divided between other candidates, as occurred in the first three nomination contests, Trump appears unbeatable.

Trump gets the usual 30% (give or take a few). The other 60% is divided, leaving him the winner.

2/3 of the Republican voters are NOT voting for Trump, so when the election finally gets down to 3 people, they could each get 30% and tighten the race.

If it comes down to 2 (trump and Rubio, or Trump and Cruz), then the non-Trump gets all 60% to Trumps steady 30% and Trump loses.

That's why it's better to keep Cruz on top, because if Rubio stays on top, he'll be unstoppable at 60% when it gets down to 2 candidates, or Trump vs. Rubio.

It would be better if Cruz wins than Rubio, but Rubio is gaining ground thanks to the Washington elites.

Wrong, both cruz and rubio are establishment players in the senate. They have been trying to play both sides and say the are outsiders, but by definition that are career politicians. When one of them drops out, which I think should be cruz at this point, the majority of those votes will go to Trump because he is the real outsider.

Well now, that’s an appellation that has never been tossed my way before.

Trump may have been a good fan of libs at one time. So what?

Byrd was in the KKK and became a much loved Democrat.

People evolve.

It's true. He's been in the race since the beginning and has been the noisiest. If people were going to support him, they'd be supporting him by now. Instead, they chose one of the other candidates. Eventually, all the other candidates are going to drop and the last man standing will get all those people who chose NOT to vote for Trump.

We're only at the beginning of the race right now. 3 out of 50 states. There's still time for the race to fall to 3 people, and then eventually 2. The sooner that happens the better. I just hope it's not Rubio who is the guy winning the majority (the non-Trump voters).
I'm very worried it will be. The RNC has his back.

Its pretty crazy when the only way you can hope for a candidate to win is to have everybody but one leave the race in the hopes that the remaining guy will defeat a person who has been the front runner since he entered the race.

It used to be that when a candidate had a strong support of at least one third of the party, they would be the odds on favorite to win.

Now we are left with a party controlled by hacks who will do anything possible to stay in power. How can we possibly live in that political system? Common Trump, let’s take this corrupt system down.

No, the 60 percent who are not currently voting for Trump will not automatically go to some other non-Trump candidate. Trump is expected to win NV quite handily on Tuesday. A week later is Super Tuesday. With 3 big wins to his credit, and him having big leads in about 10 of the 12 Super Tuesday states, he could win 10 maybe all 12, depending whether or not the bandwagon effect kicks in. People may start voting for him because he is winning, why waste a vote on guys who are perpetually in 2nd and 3rd place. If Trump wins most or all of the Super Tuesday states, who is going to keep contributing to Cruz or Rubio? Will they have enough to even keep their campaign alive more than a week or two? There are 5 contests on March 5, 1 on March 6th, 4 on March 8th, 2 on March 12, and 6 on March 15. It takes a tremendous amount of money to campaign in those states bunched up like that, Trump has the money, and the momentum, Cruz and Rubio could be out of gas by March 2nd.
