Donald Trump attacked Republicans this morning for their opposition to government-provided health care. Appearing on Meet the Press, Trump told host Chuck Todd, "We're not going to let people die in squalor because we are Republicans, okay?"
"That's part of the problem with the Republicans, somehow they got fed into this horrible position," Trump said. "We're going to take care of people."
Trump also said he didn't mean to express support for Obamacare's individual mandate during Thursday night's CNN town hall when he told Anderson Cooper, "I like the mandate."
"We had a situation where we were Anderson Cooper, who's terrific by the way and did a terrific job, but we were talking over each other," Trump said. "Look, I want - we're going to repeal and replace Obamacare."
He's a cameleon.
Sometimes he forgets the script and what he's pretending to be.
So you are in favor of letting people just die in the streets?
I don’t recall people dying in the streets before Obamacare. We’re worse off now because of it.
Every candidate has said the same thing....remove and replace Obamacare
He was, & politically IS, a democrat. He’s just running as a Republican because it was the easiest path to a nomination. Just like Bloomberg.
Get ready for TRUMPCARE!
Before gov got involved, we had many more charitable hospitals keeping folks from dying in the streets.
No reason it can’t be that way again. Gov doesn’t need to be involved.
This is an ego trip for him. Trump has no core values. He’ll say whatever he thinks will fly.
RUSH: I don't believe this.
TRUMP: Well, I like the mandate. Okay, so here's where I'm a little bit different. I don't want people dying on the streets. I say this all the time. The Republican people, they're wonderful people. They don't want people dying on the streets. We're going to take care of them through maybe concepts of Medicare. We have hospitals that aren't doing well. We have doctors that aren't doing well. You cannot let people die on the street, okay? Taking care of people that are really, really sick and are going to die. That's not single payer, by the way. That's called "heart."
RUSH: Uhhhh, I'm just not feeling this, folks. In the first place, people are not dying on the street. Where does that come from? That's the second time that I've heard Mr. Trump say this. Where does this come from? Who is out there saying, "We can't let people keep dying on the street"? There aren't any Republicans saying that. If anybody's saying that, it's got to be a bunch of Democrats. But I don't know if any Democrats are saying it. It isn't happening! So where's this coming from? And "I like the mandate"?
Trump is a liberal Democrat.
That said, I’m not disappointed because he has never claimed to be a conservative.
So this is nothing new coming from him and it won’t hurt him.
Last I saw he got all 50 delegates in SC. It was a complete shellacking. Apparently lots of people like what Trump is offering. A small group of sad ppl like yourself make it their mission in life to post anti-Trump screeds ad nauseum. Cue up Nevada. That will be the next blow out on Tuesday.
Where are people dying in the streets? National healthcare kills. Look to Britain and Canada.
Yup and he doesn’t believe what he says.
Then again Cruz who does have core values, is perceived as unelectable.
Trump’s the Republican nominee.
Attacking him helps Hillary, who is the Democrat nominee.
Come to grips with reality.
Yeah she’s a real gem isn’t she?! I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned to actually be Megyn Kelly.
Trump doesn’t lecture - he expects people to be thinking when they listen. Apparently that is a problem for some people.
Trump is proposing a single payer for those that can not afford insurance. What are you proposing for those that can not afford insurance?
The Trump haters keep reusing this line like Trump is for SINGLE PAYER or even worse Universal Coverage... He’s not.
Trump supports a free-market policy, destroying state lines, but protecting the very, very poor(we already have this by the way.) With that said he needs to give specific details on this not just rhetoric and platitudes.
As an American who currently lives in Canada I can tell you this system would not work in America... It just wont. A free-market policy where state lines are destroyed... NOW THATS an American policy.
